The Puffy mattress brand has been around for a while and originally made a big splash on The Ellen DeGeneresShow. Since then, the company has changed a lot. Puffy has completely transformed its entire mattress lineup -- the Puffy Lux went from being a soft, plush memory foam mattress to something completely different.
There is still a lot to like about the new Puffy Lux Hybrid, but it now sits in a more competitive niche and is a bit lost in the shuffle of other mattresses I rate a bit more highly.

First impressions of the Puffy Lux Hybrid mattress
When we first unboxed the new Puffy Lux Hybrid, I immediately noticed the change in its visual design. The old model has a very flat sleeping surface with no pillow-top design, while this new model has a luxurious-looking textured cover and a pillow-top look. I think the new design lends itself more to the "Lux" name.
When I first started testing the Puffy Lux Hybrid though, I was very surprised. The previous model was a very soft and plush option that we recommended for side sleepers who enjoy memory foam, and I expected more of the same for the remodel, but that is not the case at all.
I found the Puffy Lux Hybrid to be much firmer than the old model and more appropriate for back and stomach sleepers than side sleepers. It still feels like memory foam, but it is a much more responsive style of memory foam, so the new Puffy Lux Hybrid is for a much different kind of sleeper.

Is the Puffy Lux Hybrid mattress right for you?
For anyone looking for a luxurious hybrid mattress with a memory foam feel, I think the Puffy Lux Hybrid could be an excellent choice. It has a premium look at a relatively low price for a hybrid mattress and provides accommodating comfort for memory foam lovers. It also does a solid job at regulating your sleeping temperature and has a medium firmness profile that should work fairly well for most sleepers.
Puffy Lux Hybrid mattress firmness and feel
Puffy Lux Hybrid feel
The feel of the Puffy Lux Hybrid is that of a memory foam hybrid, with a bit of nuance. You will get the sink-in, body-conforming quality expected with a mattress that uses a lot of memory foam, but thanks to the coils below and the more responsive transition layer, it is more responsive than other traditional memory foam beds. Also, the quilted top cover provides a bit more responsiveness to balance out the dense memory foam.
Responsiveness refers to how much "spring back" the mattress has, and traditional memory foam beds like Tempur-Pedic are very slow to respond when you relieve weight from the foams -- which is the opposite of highly responsive beds that move with you like Purple or Avocado. The Puffy Lux Hybrid is definitely on the less responsive memory foam end of the spectrum when looking at all the beds we test, but it is more responsive than more traditional memory foam.
Puffy Lux Hybrid firmness and sleeper types
The Puffy Lux Hybrid is available in only one firmness profile and the firmness varies with each of the four mattresses from Puffy. In our testing, we found the Puffy Lux Hybrid to be a medium on our firmness scale -- although I would say it is on the firmer end of medium (6 out of 10). This means that it should work pretty well for all sleeper types, back, stomach, side and combination and be a great option for couples with varying sleeper types.
Puffy seems to be emphasizing the Puffy Lux Hybrid the most on its website which leads me to think it is the "flagship" mattresses and most brands flagship mattresses have a medium firmness profile because it appeals to the majority of sleepers. The firmness profile is the biggest difference between this new version of the Puffy Lux Hybrid and the old model, which was significantly softer and meant for side sleepers.
Puffy Lux Hybrid mattress construction
The construction of the Puffy Lux Hybrid begins with a thin layer of dense support foam at the very bottom, but it is really only there so the 6-inch-thick layer of pocketed coils has a stable foundation. Pocketed coils are a bit different from traditional innersprings and have almost completely replaced innersprings in mattress design. They provide the same level of bounce and support as innersprings but behave independently and do a much better job at absorbing cross-mattress motion.
Above the coils is a 2-inch-thick transition layer called Cloud Comfort Pressure Relief Foam. In our observation, this foam is more bouncy and responsive than the primary comfort layer above, which is a 2-inch-thick layer of memory foam. The quilted cover of the Puffy Lux Hybrid features an additional thin layer of foam for added comfort. The cover also has some cooling elements woven into it to aid in temperature regulation.
Puffy Lux Hybrid performance
Edge support
Edge support refers to how well the edge of the mattress holds up under pressure. Beds with poor edge support make you feel like you’re going to roll off the mattress near the outer edge, and it is easy to sleep near the perimeter of the edge if you are sharing a bed with a partner or pets.
The Puffy Lux Hybrid's edge support is very good, and we noticed little compression on the edge. The bed achieves this by having a dense foam layer that surrounds the coil layer, making it extra supportive along the edge.
Motion isolation
Motion isolation refers to how well the bed deadens the impact of movement on the mattress -- if you are a light sleeper who shares a mattress with someone who tosses and turns a lot, having good motion isolation is especially important.
The Puffy Lux Hybrid performs well in this category too, in large part because of the top layer of memory foam. Memory foam does a great job at absorbing force so memory foam beds perform the best in this category.
I recently made the switch to a Tempur-Pedic mattress for improved motion isolation and my partner reports much improved sleep and while the Puffy Lux Hybrid doesn’t perform quite as well as Tempur-Pedic, it will be better than the average bed.
Temperature regulation
The Puffy Lux Hybrid does have a bit of a cooling factor, thanks to the materials in the cover. It isn’t quite strong enough to find a place on our best cooling mattress list, but I think it is something most sleepers will notice and appreciate.
Historically, memory foam beds slept warmer because it was difficult to make the foam breathable and it can reflect more heat while sleeping than other materials. Modern memory foam beds tend to sleep temperature-neutral, but I think cooling materials are welcome on the Puffy Lux Hybrid.

Most mattress brands offer discounts throughout the year, and the retail price isn't the actual price you’ll be paying at checkout. Also, many brands say their sale will end soon, and you must buy now or the price will increase. Puffy is one of the biggest culprits of this. If you go to its website at any given moment, it will usually say the sale ends in 24 hours or less, and the sales are up to 50% off the retail price to make it more enticing.
But don’t listen to this, Puffy beds are always on sale and the only times the deals might change is around a major holiday. I think the actual price of roughly $1,500 for a queen-size Puffy Lux Hybrid is a pretty nice value that puts it in the same ballpark as beds like the WinkBed and the Layla Hybrid.
Puffy Lux Hybrid mattress policies
Free shipping
The Puffy Lux Hybrid will ship right to your door inside of a box at no additional cost -- which is pretty standard for most online mattresses.
Unboxing a mattress is a pretty easy process, and it should take only 5 to 10 minutes. I always recommend unboxing it with someone else because beds get heavy and are difficult to move solo.
It may take up to 48 hours for the mattress to fully inflate and reach its proper firmness level, and there may also be a bit of an odor right after unboxing a mattress, so keep that in mind.
101-night trial
All Nectar mattresses come with a trial period of 101 nights in comparison to the usual standard of 100 nights. So Puffy gives you an extra night.
It can take a month or longer for your body to adjust to a new mattress, no matter how well-suited it is to your sleeping preferences. The trial period begins the day the mattress is delivered, not when you actually start sleeping on it.
Return policy
At any point after the first 30 nights post-delivery you decide the Puffy Lux Hybrid mattress isn’t for you for any reason, you can return it and get a refund. You just contact the company, and it will coordinate with a third party to pick up the mattress for you and then the bed is usually donated.
As of writing, Puffy doesn't charge any kind of return, transportation or any other type of fee to return a bed, so getting a Puffy mattress is virtually risk-free.
Warranty
All Puffy mattresses are backed by a Lifetime warranty, which is above and beyond the usual online mattress standard of 10 years.
Like pretty much any warranty that lasts longer than 10 years, this warranty is tiered and offers more protection in the first 10 years in comparison to the years after.
How does the Puffy Lux Hybrid compare to similar mattresses?
Puffy Lux Hybrid vs. Nectar Premier Hybrid
The Nectar Premier Hybrid is a middle-tier coil mattress from Nectar. Both beds have excellent edge support and a responsive memory foam feel, but the Nectar Premier Hybrid is quite a bit softer than the Puffy Lux Hybrid and a better option for strict side sleepers looking for more plushness, and it's quite a bit more affordable with a longer trial period.
The Puffy Lux Hybrid has an edge with temperature regulation and it has a more premium look, but that doesn’t really impact the sleeping experience.
Puffy Lux Hybrid vs. Layla Hybrid
The Layla Hybrid is one of my personal favorite beds and it has a place on many of our best lists because of its flippable design that gives you two firmness profiles in a single mattress. The soft side is very plush and meant for side sleepers looking for maximum pressure relief, and the firm side is actually closer to the firmness level of the Puffy Lux Hybrid, which is on the firmer end of medium.
The Layla Hybrid also has a responsive memory foam feel, although I would describe the Puffy Lux Hybrid to have more of a traditional dense feel in comparison. Both beds are also about the same price after a discount.
Final thoughts on the Puffy Lux Hybrid mattress
I think there is a lot to like about the new Puffy Lux Hybrid mattress -- I think most sleepers will enjoy the feel, especially fans of memory foam like myself; it has an accommodating firmness profile that will work well for couples and combination sleepers, it performs well on edge support and motion isolation which is fantastic for couples, and it has a luxurious look and a cooling cover.
The price of the Puffy Lux Hybrid is a little bit high in my opinion, especially when the Nectar Premier Hybrid is a much more affordable option, but the cooling factor and the luxurious design of Puffy could be worth the extra money for many sleepers out there. I think this is a good mattress option but it doesn’t stand out in any significant way.
You might like the Puffy Lux Hybrid mattress if:
- You want a memory foam feel
- You enjoy a mattress with a medium firmness profile
- You want a mattress with coils
- You are a hot sleeper
You might not like the Puffy Lux Hybrid mattress if:
- You prefer a foam bed
- You want an especially soft mattress
- You dislike the feel of memory foam
Other mattresses from Puffy Cloud
Puffy Cloud mattress: This is the most basic mattress available from Puffy and is meant to compete with beds like the Nectar Classic and the Casper One. It is made with three foam layers and has a traditional, dense memory foam feel and a firmness profile that's most ideal for back and stomach sleepers. It is a bit more expensive than the competing mattresses I mentioned, but it also has a cooling cover that its competition doesn’t.
Puffy Royal Hybrid mattress: This is the upgraded version of the Puffy Lux Hybrid, and the biggest difference is that it features an additional layer of memory foam, which makes it feel a bit more dense. This mattress also features a layer of zoned-support foam that can help with back pain. The additional layers in the Puffy Royal make it a bit softer and more plush than the Puffy Lux Hybrid.
