Prince William and Kate Middleton have made clear that they have been “deeply concerned” by revelations in U.S. Department of Justice files on Jeffrey Epstein.

In a statement circulated to the media, a Kensington Palace spokesperson said: “I can confirm the Prince and Princess have been deeply concerned by the continuing revelations. Their thoughts remain focused on the victims.”

The 20-word missive is the first significant comment the Prince and Princess of Wales have made on the Epstein story, which is a family matter for the couple, given that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor (William’s uncle) was heavily entangled with the child sex offender.

Andrew was stripped of his royal titles by King Charles III last October because of his links to Epstein. The latest tranche of documents released by the DoJ showed Andrew kneeling over an unidentified woman — a deeply embarrassing image for Buckingham Palace.

Andrew had a long-running friendship with Epstein, with the pair pictured together in Central Park three years after Epstein had been convicted of soliciting prostitution from a minor.
