Spider-Noir's replacement is already on its way to Prime Video, as the streaming service has the perfect superhero series to take the Marvel show's spot. Nicolas Cage first played a version of Spider-Man in 2018's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. As Spider-Man Noir, he was part of one of the best Spider-Man movies released thus far, and on Prime Video, he played a similar character.
Sure, Spider-Man is having a major year in 2026. For fans who want more from the Marvel hero, Tom Holland's Peter Parker will swing through New York City again in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with Marvel's animated version of the wall-crawler returning on Disney+'s Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2 later this year. However, Prime Video has another superhero series coming before those releases.
Spider-Noir's de-facto replacement on Prime Video's release schedule, much like how the standalone Marvel hero series served that role for The Boys, is DC's Batman: Caped Crusader season 2. Prime Video dropped season 1 of the Batman series on August 1, 2024. It finally returns in two months, with all 10 episodes of season 2 set to release on July 31.
Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2 Is Spider-Noir's Perfect Replacement
There are many ways in which Batman: Caped Crusader season 2 is Spider-Noir's perfect replacement. First, the DC series is the next major superhero show on Prime Video's schedule. Second, Batman is DC's most popular superhero, just like Spider-Man is for Marvel, so replacing a Spider-Man series with a returning Batman show is fitting for the streaming service, keeping the audience engaged with heavy hitters. Finally, Spider-Noir was so interesting because it did something completely fresh for Spider-Man, exploring a gritty 1930s New York through the lens of a noir detective thriller, which Batman: Caped Crusader is shockingly close to.
Batman: Caped Crusader pulls from the Dark Knight's early stories, exploring a Gotham City that is taken out from the 1940s to 1960s DC stories. It has the same noir crime story tone of Spider-Noir, with Hamish Linklater's Batman also being more of a detective than a superhero, which is notably more fitting for Bruce Wayne than Spider-Man. This is a very specific path for superhero adaptations to follow, as most of the Marvel and DC movies and shows released these days go for a completely different take, modernizing classic stories. As such, Batman: Caped Crusader season 2 is Spider-Noir's perfect replacement.
Why Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2 Is Worth Watching On Prime Video
Batman: Caped Crusader season 1 stands at a near-perfect 94% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 71 reviews. That is even higher than Cage's Spider-Noir, which is currently at a stellar 91% with 96 reviews. In ScreenRant's Batman: Caped Crusader season 1 review, Ben Gibbons said, "Batman: Caped Crusader delivers an exciting Gotham story." Season 2 of the Batman series features the Joker, who was teased at the end of season 1 and is murdering people as he tests his toxin that makes everyone laugh uncontrollably until they die.
Other confirmed villains for Batman: Caped Crusader season 2 include the Riddler, a gender-bent version of Mad Hatter, Scarecrow, and more. Batman will also have allies, with Jim and Barbara Gordon returning, and his first female Robin in the comics, Carrie Kelley, donning a Grey Ghost suit in season 2. After Spider-Noir, another supervillain-filled superhero series with a noir edge and a hero who is a skilled detective, like Batman: Caped Crusader season 2 offers, is the perfect call.
