Prime Video's new series is dominating the streaming charts.
Streaming giant Prime Video has a long catalog of adaptations, including series such as The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Reacher, Fallout, and The Boys. Recent successful novel adaptations include Off Campus and The Summer I Turned Pretty, which have become viral smash hits for the streamer, consistently remaining in the top 10 on Prime Video since their release.
Prime Video's latest book adaptation, Every Year After, has been in the top spot on the streaming charts in the U.S. since its release, dethroning big shows including The Boys, which has recently concluded with its fifth and final season. The adaptation is also number one in 14 other countries.
Every Year After is adapted from the 2022 novel Every Summer After by Carley Fortune, which follows Percy Fraser (played by Sadie Soverall) and Sam Florek (played by Matt Cornett) across two timelines. Percy returns to Barry's Bay after ten years and confronts her past while rediscovering her feelings for Sam just before the arrival of her fiancé.
Despite the series reaching the number one spot on the streaming charts, audiences and critics are divided on whether the new adaptation is actually worth watching. Critics rated season 1 of Every Year After on Rotten Tomatoes an impressive 70% versus the audience, which was far less impressive and is currently at 52%. Critics stated that the series offers "eternal love, betrayal, regret, and redemption," with some seemingly agreeing with audiences stating that it's "average at best."
In any case, Every Year After has managed to dethrone some major series on Prime Video, including Spider-Noir, Off Campus, The Summer I Turned Pretty, The Legend of Vox Machina, and The Boys. The Boys has officially concluded after five seasons and fans were quick to watch every episode as it was released, while others bingewatched the previous seasons as major preparation. However, in a difficult feat, Every Year After has managed to surpass some of the biggest shows on Prime Video.
At the time of writing, Every Year After has yet to be renewed for a second season, but with the unprecedented success on the charts, a renewal may not be out of the question. Showrunner Amy B. Harris has a multi-season plan in place for the series, so fans are eagerly awaiting the greenlight from Prime Video.
Every Year After is available to watch on Prime Video now.
