Prime Video’s latest addition puts a new spin on that familiar formula. It follows a former special forces soldier played by Omar Chaparro (Detective Pikachu) who turns his military experience toward a deeply personal mission. The 2026 Mexican action thriller, Vengeance, stars Chaparro as Carlos “Toro” Estrada. After his wife is brutally murdered, the special forces soldier becomes determined to track down those responsible. An unexpected turn then makes Toro a millionaire, giving him the resources to take his revenge to another level. Directed by Rodrigo Valdés, Vengeance is now finding an audience around the world on Prime Video, where it has spent six weeks in Prime Video's Top 10 and is currently streaming worldwide.
Vengeance Emerges as One of Streaming’s Most Popular Action Hits
Vengeance first arrived on Prime Video on April 17, but the action thriller is still finding an audience more than four months later. It has managed to stick around on streaming months after its Prime Video debut. According to FlixPatrol, the action thriller has spent 48 days in Prime Video's Top 10, while the platform itself lists the movie as having spent six weeks in the Top 10. That staying power gives the Mexican thriller a much larger audience after initially reaching viewers earlier this year.
The movie also arrives at a time when revenge thrillers remain a reliable part of the action genre. Toro joins characters like John Wick and Taken’s Bryan Mills as a highly trained man pushed into a violent mission by a devastating personal loss. Vengeance changes that familiar setup by suddenly giving Toro millions of dollars, allowing him to build an arsenal and recruit soldiers he trusts rather than taking on his enemies entirely alone.
Vengeance Raises the Stakes With A Horrifying Mission
Toro’s mission begins with the brutal murder of his wife, but the fortune he unexpectedly receives changes the scale of what follows. Instead of walking away with his newfound wealth, he uses the money to prepare for revenge and recruits trusted soldiers to help hunt down those responsible. Chaparro is joined by Alejandro Speitzer as Miguel Díaz and Paola Núñez as Colonel Gabriela Rangel, with Natalia Solián and Luis Alberti also appearing in the movie.
For fans of John Wick, Taken, and The Equalizer, Toro should feel familiar, but Vengeance gives its hero a few twists of its own. He has the military skills to take on his enemies, millions of dollars to fund his revenge, and a team of trusted soldiers fighting alongside him.
Vengeance is currently streaming exclusively on Prime Video in the U.S.
