Nicholas Raymond is an author and journalist based out of Alabama, where he proudly roots for the Alabama Crimson Tide football team. A graduate of the University of Montevallo, he has a degree in mass communication with a concentration in journalism.

An often-overlooked superhero from Spider-Man's corner of the Marvel Universe has never felt like a strong candidate in any of the wall-crawler's live-action movies, but Spider-Noir could be a different story. Offering a live-action take on Nicolas Cage's alternate universe Spider-Man character from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the TV series is expected to utilize least a handful of characters from Marvel's library.

Of those known to be on hand are Silvermane, Black Cat, Sandman, and Robbie Robertson. Who else might show up is currently left open to speculation, but when looking at the type of world Nicolas Cage's character operates, a few great options come to mind, one of which is Solo, an anti-hero who featured quite prominently in 1990s Spider-Man comics.

Solo Is Like The Punisher, But With Super Powers

Spider-Man and Solo in Marvel Comics

Introduced in 1989's Web of Spider-Man #16, James Bourne a.k.a. Solo is a green-clad, gun-wielding vigilante who operates in a capacity akin to the Punisher. But rather than hold a vendetta against criminals in general, Solo's specific targets are those he deems as terrorists, hence Solo's slogan, "While Solo lives...terror dies!"

Another thing that sets Solo apart from the Punisher is the fact that he actually possesses a superhuman power. Thanks to a cybernetic implanted in his body when he was working with a government-authorized counter-terrorism task force, Solo has the ability to teleport. Combining teleportation with gunplay and warfare tactics, Solo has proven himself to be a force to be reckoned with.

Having lost people he cared about due to acts of terrorism, Solo is fueled by a single-minded desire to kill all terrorists, thus putting him at odds with Spider-Man on multiple occasions - not at all unlike the relationship the wallcrawler has with the Punisher.

But just as things are with the Punisher, Solo and Spider-Man have been able to find common ground. Spider-Man may detest Solo's deadly methods, but he also recognizes that Solo's enemies are a threat that he too needs to address.

Solo Would Be A Perfect Fit For Prime Video's Spider-Man Show

Given the dark nature of the Solo character, he'd feel right at home in Prime Video's Spider-Noir series. The very premise of the show is that it combines superhero action with film noir, a genre characterized by its dark themes. For that reason, it makes a lot of sense for Spider-Noir to look at some of the edgier characters in Spider-Man's comics.

With his tragic backstory and violent modus operandi, it wouldn't be difficult to work Solo into Ben Reilly's activities in Spider-Noir. It's not hard to imagine a storyline where Cage's character investigates murders that turn out to be linked to Solo's crusade against so-called "terrorists."

Such a plotline in Spider-Noir could either lead to Ben Reilly making a dangerous enemy or finding a potential ally in the battles ahead of him, and perhaps give Prime Video's small-screen Spider-Man his very own, Punisher-like foil character.
