A pop star looked unrecognisable in a 90s throwback snap as they showed off their bold perm on Tuesday.

Sharing an update to their Instagram Story, the singer looked worlds away from her usual self, with her natural hair colour on full display.

Posing for the photo, she wore a grungy, velvet mini dress and teamed her outfit with a slick of dark lipstick.

As she discussed her daring fashion choices, the musician who released her first single back in 2004, urged her followers to share their throwbacks.

This singer released one album, and another Christmas special before changing her career.

Can you guess who it could be?

That's right, it's Michelle McManus!

In the update to Instagram, she wrote: 'We’re talking bold fashion choices from over the years today on BBC Radio Scotland.

'I’ve went for my 90’s perm (also the last time I saw my natural hair colour) What’s yours? Dare to share?'

Michelle, from Glasgow, is one of the more recognisable stars from Pop Idol, after scooping the top spot in series 2.

Her victory was fraught with controversy, with judge Pete Waterman storming off the set when she won.

After winning the show, Michelle released her debut single All This Time, reaching the coveted number 1 spot in January 2004.

Meanwhile her debut album and only, The Meaning of Love charted at a very respectable number 3.

After being dropped by her record company, she set up her own label, McMannii Records, however, never released another album.

She hasn't totally retreated from the spotlight though, and over the last decade, has worked as a presenter on several TV shows, including Scottish lifestyle TV programme The Hour, and Loose Women.

Michelle continues to make appearances, recently performing her biggest hits to a sell out crowd at East Kilbride Village Theatre, and taking on the role of Chieftain at the Mallaig & Morar Highland Games.

In June, Michelle performed on stage with Robbie Williams in front of a huge 70,000 strong crowd at Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium.

The Scottish singer belted out Relight My Fire alongside the Take That star, 44, after receiving a surprise invite from him.

Michelle thanked Robbie for his 'unconditional kindness' and gave an insight into her night.
