Pokmon TCG Pocket: Which Genetic Apex Pack Is Best (& Why)

5 days ago 3

With the release of Pokémon TCG Pocket, players may wonder what the best pack of the TCG Pocket exclusive Genetic Apex set is. With three different pack designs come exclusive cards that are only found via their corresponding type, including various chase cards like full arts and powerful ex Pokémon. Cards that are strong in the app's battling feature are set to be highly sought after, so trainers may desire to consider which pack can put those who seek success in battles at an advantage when deck-building.

Different from the already existing TCG Live, TCG Pocket is a new way for trainers to collect cards and battle with their favorite Pokémon. The introduction of brand-new cards featuring familiar and powerful Pokémon creates a difficult choice of which type of packs to open, but the variety offered can appear to many trainers. Whether focusing on collecting or battling, there is something for everyone. But from a battling perspective, there is one pack that comes with more powerful cards that trainers may want to prioritize.

TCG Pocket Has Exclusive Packs And Cards

There are three versions of the Genetic Apex packs: Pikachu, Mewtwo, and Charizard. They are distinct from their pack art, hinting at the big cards that can be obtained. Each corresponding pack has the opportunity to contain Pikachu ex, Mewtwo ex, or Charizard ex, as well as a large variety of other regular cards, ex Pokémon, Trainers, and full art variations. Each pack has its own list of cards, making up three sections of the entire Genetic Apex set. Only a few select cards are shared among each of the versions, as most are exclusive to a specific pack.

Charizard Is The Best Pack To Open At Launch

Charizard ex Leads As One Of The Most Powerful Genetic Apex Cards

A Charizard booster from Pokemon TCG Pocket being opened.

The Charizard version of Genetic Apex is the best pack for those seeking the most powerful and useful cards for TCG Pocket's battle features. With both heavy hitting ex cards and disruptive support cards exclusive to this version, prioritizing the Charizard pack is the best option for competitive players to gain an advantage. The Charizard ex and Moltres ex cards are at the center for it being the best option, as combining these two cards in battles provides an efficient winning strategy.

There are also trainer support cards like Sabrina and Blaine that can turn matches in the trainer's favor. And from a collecting standpoint, the pack also offers a great chance at chase cards and some exclusive secret rares and full arts. So even collectors may want to opt for the Charizard pack initially.

This video by TrustYourPilot Pokémon on YouTube covers each pack-exclusive card in the Pocket set, examining how the Charizard version is the best of the three options. They mention how each version has its own cards that are good for competitive play, but the Charizard pack stands out. From the video's rankings, the Charizard pack comes out on top as containing the best exclusive selection of both ex card and trainer cards. While they credit the Mewtwo version for containing the best range of Pokémon in general, the Charizard version still beats it out as the one to prioritize.

Players get access to 2 free packs every day and can select which version of Genetic Apex they want. Each pack includes 5 cards, and the entire set across each of the 3 versions has 226 main cards and 60 secret rares. 41 of these cards are non-exclusive to a specific version, while all the others are only found in specific pack types. Exclusive must-have cards all range from ex cards, regular Pokemon cards, supporter cards, item cards, and special secret rares that correspond to each Pikachu, Charizard, and Mewtwo packs.

The most powerful exclusive card combination for competitive play is Charizard ex and Moltres ex. In battle, Moltres ex is able to generate fire energy with its Inferno Dance move, which can be placed on Charizard ex to charge up its Crimson Storm move. This move deals 200 damage, but players are required to discard 2 fire energy from the card. Moltres ex can continuously provide energy for Charizard ex, making it a strong strategy that persuades players to open the Charizard version of Genetic Apex.
