EX cards like Moltres are the crux of any deck in Pokémon TCG Pocket, whose abilities form your best strategy with other cards you have. You need to pick cards that synergize well with Moltres EX to stand a chance against the other strong signature Pokémon in other decks. This Fire-type Legendary has a unique playstyle that, when supported, can be very difficult for your opponents to stop.
Moltres EX is considered a Genetic Apex card in Pokémon TCG Pocket, or a Pokémon with higher HP, Power, and stronger abilities than other cards in your deck. Normally, your deck should include two Genetic Apex Cards alongside 18 other generic cards that help support it. You'll have to pull Moltres EX from a pack to start using it, so it may take some time to assemble its best deck.
Best Cards For a Moltres EX Deck
Find Other Fire-Types Who Deal Big Damage
The best cards to go along with a Moltres EX Deck will unsurprisingly also be Fire-type Pokémon that can match the Energy the Legendary bird uses. When building a deck, you have to consider what cards synergize well with your Genetic Apex's ability. Since your opponent scores two points for knocking out Moltres EX, you also want cards to take the heat off your signature card somewhat.

Pokémon TCG Pocket Expands Wonder Pick Event With More Rewards Starring Everyone's Favorite Feline
The second part of the Wonder Pick event is now live in Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, with more Meowth-themed goodies to unlock.
To help you plan, here are both of the abilities that Moltres EX can do:
- (1 Fire Energy) Inferno Dance - Flip 3 coins. Take an amount of Fire-type Energy from your Energy Zone equal to the number of heads and attach it to your benched Pokémon in any way you like.
- (1 Fire Energy, 2 Normal Energy) Heat Blast - 70 Damage
These abilities are designed to help Moltres EX ramp up Fire-type Energy fast to help your other Fire-type Pokémon attack more often. Once you get enough Energy, some options in your deck may be able to wipe out enemy Pokemon fast, especially if they are weak to Fire-types in general.
Although you may have to spend money in Pokemon TCG Pocket on packs to assemble this deck, here are the best cards to pair with Moltres EX:
x2 Heatmor | Basic Pokémon | (1 Fire Energy) Combustion - 30 Damage |
x2 Sizzlipede | Basic Pokémon | (1 Normal Energy) Gnaw - 10 Damage |
x2 Centiskorch | Stage 1 Pokémon | (1 Fire Energy, 3 Normal Energy) Fire Blast - 130 Damage, Discard a Fire-type Energy from this Pokémon. |
x2 Sabrina | Supporter | Switch out your opponent's Active Pokémon to this bench (Your opponent chooses the new Active Pokémon.) |
x2 Potion | Item | Heal 20 Damage from one of your Pokémon. |
x2 X Speed | Item | During this turn, the Retreat Cost of your Active Pokémon is one less. |
x2 Poké Ball | Item | Put one random Basic Pokémon from your deck into your hand. |
x2 Red Card | Item | Your opponent shuffles their hand into their deck and draws three cards. |
x2 Professor's Research | Supporter | Draw two cards. |
How To Use The Best Deck For Moltres EX
Enforce Your Firey Strategy Quickly
As you can see from the other cards listed, your best strategy with this Moltres EX deck should be to get out your strongest Pokémon quickly and deal as much damage as possible every turn. This starts with getting out Moltres EX quickly, despite the risk of it falling and giving your opponent extra points. The cards you build your deck around can only work well in this deck if you focus on getting them out fast.

Pokémon TCG Pocket: How To Battle
Battling is a huge part of Pokémon TCG Pocket and you can easily face off against the AI, random players online and your friends to test your skills.
Centiscorch in particular is the Pokémon you want out all the time. With Moltres EX's ability, you can spend a little Fire-type Energy to gain a lot more, allowing you to pull off Centiscorch's highly damaging Fire Blast move over and over. Moltres EX ramps Fire-Type Energy for Centiscorch for your core gameplan, even with the Legendary bird on your Bench.
Be careful to keep Moltres EX alive to enforce your strategy. Although Moltres EX has a +20 weakness to Electric-type moves, all your other Pokemon will have a similar weakness to Water-types, making some match-ups hard to win.
Your goal should always be to draw Moltres EX first in your starting hand to get things going the way you want. Unless you draw the Legendary early, you have little chance of contending against the other cool Pokémon TCG Pocket cards that others may use against you.
If you can consistently get an Inferno Dance/Fire Blast combo going, opponents will have very few chances to stop you as a match goes on. The best Moltres EX deck you can use in Pokemon TCG Pocket is one that gets a bit lucky but has a solid strategy that is easy to pick up for beginners.
