The next Pokémon Trading Card Game set name and release date were leaked, providing a timeline for the return of Owner's Pokemon cards. 2025 should be a big year for the Pokémon Trading Card Game. The new year will begin with Prismatic Evolutions, a new "special set" focusing on Eevee and its various evolved forms. The Pokémon TCG has also confirmed that Owner's Pokémon cards are returning to the game, with trainers from more recent games like Pokémon Black & White and Pokémon Sun & Moon bringing their signature Pokémon to the game.

PokeBeach has revealed that the next Pokémon TCG set is called Journey Together and will be released on March 28th. This set should feature Owner's Pokémon cards featuring N from Pokémon Black & White, Lillie from Pokémon Sun & Moon, and Iono from Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. PokeBeach also speculates that Journey Together will incorporate cards from two Japanese preconstructed decks, which would also add Steven Stone (from Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire) and Marnie (from Pokémon Sword & Shield) to the set.

Pokémon TCG's Owner's Pokémon Explained

Pokémon TCG's New Card Type Brings Back Early Game Mechanic

Owner's Pokémon cards were an early mechanic of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, having first appeared in the Gym Heroes and Gym Challenge sets during the Gen 1 era of the game. Owner's Pokémon have no unique mechanics on their own, but they often have synergies with trainer cards featuring their owner and other Pokémon with the same owner. For example, the N's Zoroark ex card revealed this year at the Pokémon World Championships states that Zoroark can choose an attack from another one of N's Pokémon on the bench and use it as their own.

These new Pokémon cards should be popular for a few reasons. The first is that they offer obvious synergies to build a deck around and will likely shift the metagame similarly to how Battle Styles and Ancient/Future Pokémon did during those respective eras. The other is that the alternate art cards will almost certainly feature fan-favorite trainers, which will likely translate to some major chase cards for players.

Our Take: Pokémon TCG Set to Move On From Tera Type Pokémon

Could This Be The End Of Controversial Pokémon TCG Feature?

One interesting wrinkle in this Journey Together set is that none of the Owner's Pokémon ex cards revealed so far are Tera Pokémon ex cards. Tera Pokémon ex cards have dominated the Scarlet & Violet era of the Pokémon TCG over the past two years.

Since many of the featured trainers have nothing to do with Terastallization (a mechanic that only appeared in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet), it may mean that the Pokémon TCG is finally set to move on from this mechanic. That would make the Prismatic Evolutions set feel more like a capstone to the current Scarlet & Violet era than previously believed.
