The Pokémon franchise has recently celebrated 30 years out in the wild and over that time we've had a ton of absolutely classic games to enjoy. Your own favorite will likely depend on what came out during that perfect childhood sweet spot, and there aren't too many wrong answers with that in mind.
Given that we now very much seem to be in the remake and remaster era of video games, fans have understandably had their attention turned to which Game Freak releases could return in a new form. Top of the list for many was Pokémon Black and White, and now news has emerged on that front that has wide-reaching implications for those who were hoping for a remake.
Over on Twitter/X, usually reliable source Centro Leaks shared a bunch of inside information on the projects that are supposedly in development for the Pokémon franchise right now. At the same time, they also confirmed that "Notably, no Unova remakes are currently in development."
That would immediately put pay to any dreams of Black and White remakes being in the works currently, and that unsurprisingly came as a disappointment to fans that responded.
"I think we're done with remakes in the traditional sense. The Indigo Disk DLC from Scarlet/Violet was probably the closest thing we got as far as going back to Unova. And Legends Z-A was our return to Kalos and the XY 'remake,'" one read.
"Unova remakes were the only remakes I was looking forward to. Since B/W was the only gen I didn't play," another said.
Others were a little more hopeful, with one saying, "I still have my hopes for BW remakes one day." While another added a genuine reason to stay positive, saying, "I noticed it said 'at Game Freak' and the Diamond and Pearl remake was outsourced. Maybe the same is happening for Unova?"
For the time being, Game Freak will undoubtedly be pouring a lot of the studios' time and effort into the first game of the tenth generation, Pokemon Winds and Waves. The new release features a beautiful archipelago map based on South-East Asia, and we've also already been given our first look at the game's starter 'mons, despite release not being scheduled until 2027.
Otherwise, Black and White fans will just have to sit tight and hope that the developer listens to the increasingly loud calls for the game to return.
