Now that Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen are officially back in the wild again, fans have been putting the pair of games through their paces.
While gamers have discovered a handful of returning mechanics, YouTuber zDarko98 has an oldie but a goodie to share with us: an infinite money glitch. Here's how to replicate it.
How To Get Infinite Money In Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen
It's Easy Enough To Do
After 22 years, Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen are finally back on modern platforms. Although Pokémon Home support isn't available at launch, it will be eventually, allowing players to bring their classic Generation 1 (and some Generation 2) Pokémon to other games. But first, you're probably trying to beat the game.
As many newcomers know, while the first generation isn't particularly taxing, it can be tricky if you aren't familiar with types, weaknesses, and breeds. You may find yourself running out of healing items and Poké Balls eventually, which is where this tip comes in.
Here are the steps to get infinite money in Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen:
- Progress through the game until you reach Cerulean City (located in the top right-hand corner of the Kanto map).
- Defeat the five NPC trainers on Nugget Bridge.
- Battle Team Rocket Grant near Route 24, where he'll give you a nugget.
- After you get the nugget, lose the battle.
- Go back to Team Rocket Grant and repeat the process.
Every nugget you sell will net you 5,000 Pokémon Dollars. You can even get the nuggets repeatedly, then sell them later on/when you need them.
Here's another tip if you find yourself losing battles a lot: Think of them like bonus items you can exchange for currency, much like a Souls game. That way, you aren't losing any cash in your wallet if you happen to black out/lose a battle.
Spend Your Money On Being The Very Best
You Might Need Some Poké Balls
While there are more limited options to spend money on the first generation of games than later entries (where you can really dump cash into EV and IV training directly), you may want to grab a huge swath of Ultra Balls and Max Potions/Revives. This will help you on your quest to unlock the National Pokédex (and explore the new Sevii Islands), and take on the Elite Four/Elite Four rematches, respectively.
There's a lot more to do in Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen compared to the original Red and Blue games, so having a huge cache of supplies will help you as you make your way through the endgame. Just make sure you do the nugget trick as often as you want until you defeat the Team Rocket member and permanently end the money train.
