Though they were technically spin-offs, not to mention a little disappointing to many at the time, Pokémon Stadium and Pokémon Colosseum did plenty of things that other games in the series haven't done before or since. As such, it was very excited when the latter was confirmed to be returning via the Switch 2, but not everything has materialized as first planned.
Over on Reddit, one user shared a post confirming that exactly a year has passed since Nintendo confirmed that Pokémon Colosseum would be made available on the Switch 2, as part of the GameCube Classics catalog. Since then, we haven't really heard much, and fans are wondering what exactly might be causing it to take so long.
There were plenty of salient theories in the responses as well, with one saying, "XD was shown before Colosseum in that presentation. They definitely just felt XD was better to do first, whether that's because of theming or mechanics/polish or being generally easier than Colosseum — that's my take, anyway."
"My theory is that it’s for something to do with the save feature , if you ever played the original you know you can only save at PCs , and with the load state function in the glorified emulator that totally changes how hard the game is. So I wonder if they are trying to find a way to circumvent it," another added.
"If they sell it as a stand alone game in the shop it’ll have home capabilities. If it goes to switch online then it’ll just be like XD. I imagine it has something to do with being able to have multiple save states in the emulator, but I’m not immediately sure on that," a third said.
Whatever is happening with Pokémon Colosseum, the fact that it's coming over to the Switch 2 at all is a genuinely great thing for those who grew up playing it (me). Now all we need is a full remake with modern graphics, and it really will feel like Pokémon Christmas all over again.
