Pokémon Champions finally received a release window during the 30th anniversary Pokémon Presents this week, alongside new footage from the upcoming title. The cross-platform battler will arrive for Nintendo Switch consoles this April, and mobile later this year, just in time for it to be used during the Pokémon World Championships this August.
Champions was first announced on Pokémon Day in February 2025, with The Pokémon Company revealing additional information during another presentation that July. The game's focus is all on competition, centered on arena battles and customizable teams. Players can import Pokémon with Pokémon Home or build a team with the in-game roster. Battles can take place as either singles or doubles fights, and as private or ranked online matches.
The new trailer for Pokémon Champions once again focused on the game's portability, allowing players to compete at home and on the go. The trailer only showed a bit of additional in-game video, instead focusing on the real-life competition the game aims to encourage. However, the gameplay footage did show off more battling with Mega Evolution Pokémon, specifically a Mega Raichu X. Though not a part of the Champions trailer, players also learned during the presentation that Pokémon from the new FireRed and LeafGreen remakes will be transferable to Pokémon Home, and in turn able to be used in Champions.
This Champions announcement was one of many exciting bits of news Pokémon fans received during the 2026 Pokémon Presents. Alongside a release date for the game, players learned more about Pokémon Pokopia, a new Pokémon TCG Pocket set, and the long-awaited announcement of Gen 10, Winds and Waves. With such an exciting Pokémon Day, 2026 is shaping up to be a very good year for fans.
