WARNING: Contains Potential Spoilers for POISON IVY #29!Poison Ivy is well-loved and known for her provocative costumes, which have been a central part of her character since her inception. However, it seems the Gotham City Siren has grown bored with her typical wardrobe, officially trading in her bodysuits and bustiers for a daring leaf bikini—especially bold considering it’s the dead of winter in the DCU.

Undeniably one of her most revealing looks, it’s also wildly inappropriate for the cold weather.

Sánchez and Asrar’s variant cover showcases Poison Ivy shedding snow as winter arrives in the DC Universe. While it’s incredibly fun to see Ivy embracing the sweater weather by snowboarding, the most striking aspect of this cover is her outfit choice. Undeniably one of her most revealing looks, it’s also wildly inappropriate for the cold weather. The Queen of Green is featured in a bikini made solely of her signature leaves. While not entirely unheard of, Ivy rarely strays from her bustier/bodysuit looks; and when she does, it typically involves wearing more clothing rather than less. Thus, this leaf bikini holds particular significance in her ever-changing wardrobe.

The outfit stands in sharp juxtaposition to the cold weather while still staying true to Ivy’s foliage-inspired costumes, making it particularly delightful. However, Sánchez and Asrar don’t leave her completely bereft of winter-appropriate gear. Ivy also sports a thick beanie and scarf made from the same leaves as her bikini, giving the look a distinctive winter vibe. Additionally, the Gotham Siren wears proper snowboarding boots in a vibrant pink, paired with thick blue wool socks—two colors that are rarely seen in her costume wardrobe. This ensemble creates a unique look and would be epic if a snowboarding cosplayer brought it to life on the slopes.

Why Is Poison Ivy’s Skin Partially Green?

Another notable detail of Sánchez and Asrar’s variant cover is Ivy’s partially green skin, with her hands, forearms, and lower legs taking on a greenish hue. While the artists haven’t confirmed the reasoning behind this design choice, Ivy’s green skin typically has two explanations in canon. Some interpretations attribute it to the deadly toxins flowing through her body, while others explain it as a result of her ability to produce chlorophyll, which allows her to convert sunlight into a food source. This artistic choice likely reflects the latter, as Poison Ivy seems to be soaking up sunlight in the winter snowscape to stay warm despite her minimal clothing.

Poison Ivy #29 will be released on January 1, 2025, from DC Comics!
