PlayStation Plus Free 150-Hour RPG Is Final Fantasy Meets Stardew Valley

3 hours ago 4

Despite some recent and genuinely troubling issues around the price of the product for the average gamer, PlayStation Plus remains a very compelling offering. The convenience it offers to fans of all genres, without the need for a single, large outlay on an individual game, means that it remains the preferred option for most who main the PS5.

Though it's difficult to describe it as a "problem," PS Plus is so full of games from every genre that it can be a little difficult to pick out the ones that might work best for you. As such, you may not know that there's an enormous and ambitious RPG on the service that's well worth your consideration if you found Stardew Valley to be compelling.

This PlayStation Plus RPG Is Well Worth Your Time

Rune Factory 4 Special Marvelous Europe Limited

Over on the PlayStation Store, you should be able to find the page for Rune Factory 4 Special, a fantasy farming adventure with RPG elements that really does some interesting things with the formula. Available to those who are signed up to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium, it's hugely well reviewed across all platforms and seemingly drawing in players from some of the other big games in the genre.

Set in the world of Sephia, you fall from the sky and land on the back of a friendly dragon, following which everything falls into place and you end up living in a castle adjacent to a small town. You'll be responsible for improving and developing the town, as well as your own environs, in order to make sure you and everyone you love has a great life.

Along the way you'll be farming, fishing, cooking, and crafting to get everything you need, meeting an extensive cast of characters along the way. There's also an impressively deep combat system and dungeons to conquer, as well as a full main narrative to explore and work through.

There's also a relationship system and you can marry the partner of your dreams, which further unlocks a Newlywed Mode. That essentially amounts to a special story that you complete as a partnership, with fully voiced bonus stories for each marriage candidate along the way.

If You Like Stardew Valley, You'll Love This

As you might be able to tell from the description of the game, this is really one that should appeal to Stardew Valley fans, and those who are into the genre more generally. Though the aesthetics are obviously very different, the mechanics underneath are remarkably consistent, and it's well worth a go if you haven't tried it out on PlayStation Plus yet.
