PlayStation Plus users are doing well so far in 2026 and have a ton of different genres to choose from. Now, thanks to some April PlayStation Plus reveals, we have an even bigger idea of what's dropping on the service. In addition to Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, Football Manager 26, and Squirrel with a Gun, a few surprise games will hit PS+.
The PlayStation Blog just dropped the news that there's going to be a massive RPG on offer, and it'll last you weeks, if not months. It's also hard to put down, making it a perfect game to dive into with an open mind.
This PlayStation Plus Freebie Is A Straight-Up Classic
There's A Lot To Dig Into
Dropping on April 21 through the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium tiers, Monster Train will join the service. This 2020 puzzle/RPG deckbuilder is an absolute classic, and wowed many fans of Slay the Spire and other genre staples.
As the commander of the titular Monster Train, you'll transport demons and other creatures through a roguelike map, using various units and spells of different factions. The more you win, the more stuff you unlock, including new factions, units, and more enemies to fight. Like most roguelike games, it also has an enormous postgame.
Monster Train is not only a legendary game, but it also welcomed a sequel last year. Monster Train 2 expands even further on the original formula, incorporating mechanics that weave into each other to deliver a more in-depth sense of discovery. It's well worth playing if you're a fan of the original.
Monster Train Will Consume All Your Free Time
It Gets Addicting
Part of the reason why Monster Train is such a rewarding game is the sheer amount of playstyle combinations on offer. Factions can be mixed and matched, and each faction has multiple heroes to swap in that can dictate a different approach. Unlocks come at a brisk pace, so you don't feel like you're missing out or grinding runs.
Using reports from HowLongToBeat, it'll take you nearly 100 hours to fully complete Monster Train. Based on my 30-ish hour gametime, this is fairly accurate, given how many combinations of troops, factions, and items you can acquire in the game. It'll also take you a long time to figure out how to best the game's prestige modes after completing the campaign.
If you're remotely into the puzzle or RPG genres at all, Monster Train is worth checking out if you have PlayStation Plus. Plus, there's a fully-fledged sequel out now. It's a really great series to dig into and come out of weeks later, just like Balatro.
