PlayStation is going FAST with a new streaming app that lets PlayStation 5 owners watch live television and on-demand movies for free. Starting Monday, Live TV on PS5 is available to PS5 owners in the U.S., offering a free ad-supported streaming option from Sony Pictures Television, the PlayStation maker announced. Live TV on PS5 is essentially Sony's take on free ad-supported television, à la Tubi, Pluto, and Roku, with more than 100 live channels and a selection of movies.

The current offerings include classic and fan-favorite TV shows (e.g., Community, The Shield, The Walking Dead) and anime series, plus a selection of action, horror, and sci-fi movies. You could be watching Silent Hill: Revelation right now on Live TV on PS5. Sony promises to "add new channels and additional content over time" but here's what PS5 owners can expect at launch.

Live TV on PS5 launch programming

  • Movies – Free movies across action, horror, sci-fi and more, with channels including MovieSphere by Lionsgate, 50 Cent Action, FilmRise Free Movies, Sony One Horror Hits and Cinevault.
  • TV Shows – Fan-favorite programming including Community, The Shield, Hell’s Kitchen, The Walking Dead, Forensic Files, Unsolved Mysteries, Deal or No Deal USA and Fear Factor, plus Ice Road Truckers from A+E’s History.
  • Anime – Anime favorites including Naruto, Sailor Moon, Hunter x Hunter, Death Note and more, including exclusive channels Black Clover and Box Sets channels from Crunchyroll.
  • Sports – Sports programming from Fox Sports, NASCAR, NBC Sports Now, UFC and more spanning MMA, football, hockey, motorsports, golf, boxing and soccer
  • News & Weather – National, local and international coverage including NBC News Now, Fox Weather, and LiveNOW from FOX

If you're a regular viewer of Tubi and its ilk, you'll know what to expect from the content offerings. But the selection of Crunchyroll and other channels dedicated to anime series such as Death Note, Naruto, Hunter x Hunter, Sailor Moon, and Yu-Gi-Oh! will be great options for anime fans looking for something reliable to put on in the background. Fans of Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson will also be delighted to discover the 50 Cent Action channel, which promises "high-octane movies and series, curated by 50 Cent himself, for the ultimate thrill ride."

To watch Live TV on PS5, you'll simply need to sign in with your PlayStation Account. It's pretty painless.

Live TV on PS5 is currently available in the U.S., and Sony is planning to roll it out to Canada and other regions.
