PlayStation Gamers Treated To Hit Open-World Game Completely Free, No PS Plus Required

PlayStation hasn't exactly been endearing itself to its enormous player base in recent weeks and months, but there are still a lot of people out there for whom the console is their only port of call for a pixelated good time. Fortunately, what we already have isn't going anywhere anytime soon, and there are plenty of options available if you know where to look.

One of the only usual restrictions on the platform is that playing multiplayer titles requires an active PlayStation Plus subscription, which comes less and less cheap with each passing month. That said, there is an offer right now that bypasses this necessity entirely, and it's for one of the most popular releases of all time.

As noted over on Reddit, Rockstar are celebrating the release of The Kortz Center Heist update for Grand Theft Auto Online, by allowing players to play without an active PlayStation Plus subscription. The offer is ongoing, and it's set to run until July 20, so you still have a couple of days of free fun available if you act quickly.

The Kortz Center Heist is the latest addition to the roster, and by all accounts it's great fun, even if there are a lot of requirements to launch the mission yourself. The robbery sees you and your crew enter the titular center to steal millions of pounds in fine art, and you'll have all the guards and laser grids to overcome that you might expect from this kind of thing.

The first thing you'll need to have to start the heist process is a mansion, and as you'd expect those really don't come cheap. You'll then need the Art Studio expansion, where your contact will start making high-tech replicas. If all of that sounds too much like a chore, you can always join someone else's run of the heist and not bother with the rigmarole.

The offer also applies to those who want to play the game on the Xbox Series S/X, though PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players miss out.

Other than it obviously being free, it also feels like a bit of a last hurrah for what has been well over a decade of good times with this iteration of GTA Online. Rockstar hasn't yet made clear what exactly they plan to do with the multiplayer portion of GTA VI after it launches, but it's safe to say that it currently feels like it's going to be an entirely fresh start.
