PlayStation Freebie Is Stardew Valley Meets No Man's Sky, No PS Plus Needed

The PlayStation 5 has built up quite a name for itself in terms of third-party games. While AAA titles from Sony aren't as frequent as many fans would like, a ton of studios have opted to put their games on the PSN, given its popularity over the Xbox platform and its penchant for handling specific graphically demanding games better than the Switch 2.

As a result, the PlayStation 5 has entered the top 10 all-time console list, sitting at number eight, just above the PlayStation 3 at the ninth spot. It'll need to rally roughly nine million more hardware sales to challenge the Wii and overtake it for seventh place.

Before then, you can try a freebie. Now, over on the PSN, a new game has launched, and you don't need PlayStation Plus to try it.

Farming In Space

Moving out of Early Access and into the full version, you can pick up a demo for Farlands now on the PSN. Developed by JanduSoft and Eric Rodriguez, this simulator is a lot like Stardew Valley meets No Man's Sky, in that you need to fix a planet in a sci-fi setting.

Here's the premise, which is enticing enough to get me to check it out: "Seeking a lifestyle change, you saw an offer you couldn’t refuse: an entire planet going for a bargain price! An old agrarian rock in an outlying solar system that’s been lying abandoned for years. So, with little more than your worn-out ship and your personal assistance droid, you decide to embark on a new phase of your life in a lost corner of the galaxy."

Following that lifestyle change, you'll cut weeds, plant sci-fi crops, and slowly restore the planet. You'll also be able to use your ship to explore the solar system, which in turn allows you to find different materials that can be used to better your planet. Traveling also comes with story-related perks, since you'll be able to meet more people, who will fill you in on their lives and the game universe's lore.

Try out Farlands For Free

The cozy and simulation genres have really taken off since Stardew Valley, and pretty much every platform has droves of them. Not all of them are winners, but the idea of buying a planet and then traveling the galaxy to better it does sound interesting.

If you're interested, make sure you search for Farlands on PSN, with no space between the two words. There's also a game called "Far Lands," as well as "Farlands Journey."
