The achievement and trophy systems have a long, complex history. Although Xbox popularized achievements on consoles, Sony followed suit on PlayStation not long after. Achievements and Trophies have been a staple of both platforms for ages, but at times, they also share something in common: floods of Trophy Games.

During the Xbox 360 era, there was a rampant attempt to release "easy Gamerscore" titles, where you could feasibly earn 1000/1000 achievements in a given game in minutes, or even seconds. Various marketplaces have vowed to fight back against these kinds of games that flood listings, but generally haven't been able to eliminate them completely.

Thanks to a report from PushSquare, we know that there's yet another game available on PlayStation 5 right now that offers an easy Platinum Trophy. In fact, it'll flex your mental muscles a bit if you're aiming to do it as quickly as possible. On average, it should take most people around five minutes, tops.

The game in question, which still offers a Platinum trophy at the time of publication, is Chess Mate by CUDIT Games. As expected, this is a basic chess game, and there's not much more to it than that. If you know the basic rules of chess, it should only take you five minutes to clear this Platinum. If you don't, you'll need only roughly 10 minutes with a few tips.

For reference, you can Platinum Chess Mate with the following tasks:

  • Move a piece 25 times
  • Capture every chess piece once
  • Win one game
  • Get a checkmate

Fans suggest playing the game on the lowest difficulty possible (The Apprentice), and "shuffle mode." The latter is a randomized mode that moves pieces around the board before the round starts, creating absurd situations where you can dominate a game against an easy AI in minutes.

That's it. Just play a few normal games of chess, and you'll unlock the full Platinum. If you don't know how to play, you can spend a few minutes learning how and get a digital reward in the process.

You Don't Need PlayStation Plus For This One

It's A Pretty Easy Process

Thankfully, Chess Mate is a fully free game, no strings attached. While it's exclusively available on the PlayStation 5 platform, it's not linked to PlayStation Plus or a limited-time deal in any capacity. If you're into getting Trophies like this, you can grab it now from the official PSN listing.

If you're a PlayStation fan and are hunting down so-called "Platinum Trophy Games," you can add another one to the pile. As for the other side of the fence, Sony has a long way to go if it wants to keep policing its storefront.
