Whenever a new console is on the horizon, fans either get excited about the next generation or lament having to drop hundreds of dollars on a new device. For the PlayStation 6 era, it's a little bit of both.
Fans are torn right now over the release year of the PlayStation 6, with some wanting it to come earlier and others requesting a later release. Either way, it'll be ready when Sony says so, but fans on Reddit are debating the right time.
What Year Is The PlayStation 6 Coming?
It Could Be As Early As Next Year
With the PlayStation 6 coming in the next few years, according to insiders, even hardcore Sony fans are starting to get anxious about buying a new machine. Understandably, since gaming has been getting even more expensive in recent years, some fans want Sony to cool off: "Can we just….not? Isn’t gaming tech good enough with current consoles? Can we all just leave the next gen for at least another 5 years?"
Others are hopeful that if it's a handheld, it could be cheaper: "If this is true, it will be handheld. I don't think u will be able to put PS4 or PS5 disks into it, nor will it be powerful. I know that Nintendo's handhelds are popular. No idea if PS6 will fail or win"
One fan wants Microsoft to step it up, so Xbox and PlayStation can have more competition: "Let's hope for some competition from Xbox to reign in these insane prices.. But what will likely happen is: they both will just jack up the prices and there you go.."
The PS5 Era Has Been Divisive
Not Everyone Loves It
Some users are even talking about the PlayStation 5 era, and how it didn't make a big impact on their lives: "I regret buying a PS5 in some ways ngl. A lot of money for not many games this generation and it feels like I legit just bought it but a new ones coming out next year. I know it’s been five years but it does not feel like it."
A few are happy with what they've spent so far, but aren't looking forward to diving into the PS6 era: "The PS4 still has games coming out for it. My launch PS4 system still works. I just bought a PS5 Pro the other day. I'm not upgrading again for at least another 10 years."
This latter user makes a great point. The PS5 Pro is plenty powerful, and will likely support more games long term as Sony slowly rolls out the PlayStation 6. It'll take some time for the PS6 to host actual, fully-fledged exclusives, which extends the life of the PS5 a bit.
