Phoebe Burgess lays into ex-husband Sam over his cheating in expletive-filled podcast as she reveals she left and went back to NRL star five or six times before finally divorcing him

Phoebe Burgess has opened up about the turbulent breakdown of her marriage to Sam Burgess, revealing for the first time that she walked out on him multiple times before finally calling it quits — and taking aim at his infidelity. 

It was previously reported that Phoebe first separated from Sam in December 2018 before reconciling in April the following year, only for things to end for good six months later.

Now, the 37-year-old has revealed she and Sam rekindled their relationship as many as six times before their relationship finally ended.

'We went back five or six times. That highway got a workout. I'd pack everything and f**king leave and then I'd go back,' she told her co-host Hannah Ferrier on the first episode of their (OVER)SHARE podcast this week.

Phoebe said the COVID pandemic ultimately helped her break the cycle.

'Covid was the thing I could lean on to stay away. To stay home and to utterly melt into the f**king scenery and just be with the kids,' she explained.

Phoebe then spoke about the humiliation of having her marriage fall apart in the public eye, recalling the devastating moment she discovered Sam's sexual misconduct had become a newspaper story in 2018.

At the time, Sam had been accused of exposing himself to a 23-year-old woman during a series of sexually charged video calls. 

Phoebe, who was pregnant with the couple's second child at the time, recalled: 'I was meant to be going to one of my first ultrasounds, but instead I go wake up ready, I get the paper. Huh, it's my husband's a d**k. Great.

She also used her appearance on the podcast to take aim at Sam's public admission of infidelity during his appearance on SAS Australia in 2021. 

During the reality show, Sam acknowledged he had not always been a good husband and admitted to having an affair with a woman in Melbourne.

'I don't think I was the greatest husband at times. I embarrassed my wife. I'd had an affair with a girl, a woman in Melbourne. That's true,' he said.

'I was away on tour, and regretfully that happened. Which would have been... it would have been a tough place for Phoebe to be.'

Hannah was quick to challenge Sam's choice of words, pointing out that his description made it sound as though the affair had simply happened to him, rather than being the result of his own actions.

'Now, honestly, regretful that it happened, it didn't happen, you did it. Those are two different things,' she said.

Phoebe initially appeared reluctant to directly criticise her ex-husband, explaining that she did not want to come across as a 'bitter ex'.

However, she went on to deliver a pointed response to his comments, making it clear she believed actions spoke louder than words.

'I've always believed more than anything, you're not what you say, or what you don't say,' she began. 

'You're not what you feel or you tell people you feel. You are what you do or what you don't do. That's firmly what I believe.'

'And I think that's pretty self-explanatory. You guys can think about whether [Sam's] statement sounds like the whole truth, nothing but the whole truth, you know, so help me f**king SAS if you think that's true.'

Elsewhere in the podcast, Phoebe reflected on the fundamental differences between herself and Sam, admitting she had once believed their shared values and desire for a family would be enough to overcome their troubles.

'We had so many crossovers and so many values in important things, values we shared. And I thought that was enough to be from two different worlds,' she said.

 'And I thought the idea of family that we both shared was the same, but it wasn't.'

Meanwhile, Sam has recently been in the headlines after announcing his new wife Lucy is pregnant with their third child. 

Lucy announced the news back in July, posting a video of herself surrounded by her family, including former NRL star Sam and their two children, daughter Robbie and son Mack.
