Tiger Woods Loses License for 5 Years in DUI Plea Deal
Phil Mickelson is taking time to focus on his recovery.
The pro golfer recently checked himself into a treatment facility, where he was “seeking treatment for family trauma and addiction,” his rep confirmed to TMZ Sept. 30.
According to his rep, Mickelson has already left the facility.
The 56-year-old had been candid about his gambling addiction in the past, sharing in 2023 that he needed to step away from playing fantasy football as he “crossed the line of moderation and into addiction.”
“The money wasn't ever the issue since our financial security has never been threatened,” he wrote on Instagram at the time, “but I was so distracted I wasn't able to be present with the ones I love and caused a lot of harm.”
“This lack of presence has been so hurtful,” he continued. “‘You're here but you're not with us,’ is something I've been told often throughout my addiction. It affected those I care about in ways I wasn't aware or could fully understand.”
At that time, the veteran golfer shared how thankful he was for his wife Amy Mickelson—with whom he shares kids Amanda, 27, Sophia, 24, and Evan, 23—as she had “loved me and supported me through my darkest and most difficult times.”
In recent months, Mickelson had stepped back from several tournaments, including the first two events for LIV Golf in February and the Masters in April, citing an unspecified family matter.

“I will not be able to participate in the first two LIV events as Amy and I need to be present for a family health matter,” Mickelson wrote on Instagram in February. “I can’t wait to compete again and look forward to rejoining my teammates as soon as possible.”
As he stepped back from the Masters, he noted in an Instagram post that he “will be out for an extended period of time as my family continues to navigate a personal health matter.”
In June, the golfer’s rep confirmed to Golf Digest that he had resigned from a Southern California golf club following allegations of “inappropriate contact,” although they did not specifically comment on the allegations.

“Any misunderstanding has been cleared up,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “Phil continues to attend to a family health matter and is uncertain when he will be able to return to professional golf.”
In a separate statement to Skratch, his rep noted that Mickelson’s “priority is to become the husband, father, and man his family deserves.”
“Right now, that means giving his full attention to a private family health matter,” they added. “He understands that parts of his life are public, but his family's private matters are not.
