Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2 swings into D23.

D23 is celebrating 65 years of Spider-Man. And as a surprise for the attendees of the special anniversary panel, a new date and preview have been released.

According to the panelists, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2's release date has been pushed back. Originally returning in the fall of 2026, the Marvel animated series will hit screens in January instead, delaying its debut by several months.

Guests were also able to watch some footage from the upcoming installment of the series, which featured action-packed scenes of Peter Parker fighting classic villains such as the Lizard and Rhino. The sneak peek also reveals Gwen Stacy joining the cast as she and Spider-Man fight alongside Daredevil. It also shows Venom bonding with Spider-Man, ending with the symbiote taking over the superhero's body.

The very last clip in the preview backs up a major announcement that was made during the D23 panel for comic book fans. It was revealed that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2 will focus on more of the franchise's classic villains, many of whom showed up in the footage. It also implies that the series might adapt one of the most iconic storylines in the comics.

During Secret Wars (1984), Peter refuses to wear a Spider-Man suit that Venom attached itself to because he realized that wearing it would allow the Symbiote to merge itself into his body. Offended by the rejection, Venom meets Eddie Brock, who also has a vendetta against the superhero, so the two team up to take him down.

This storyline was briefly explored in Sam Raimi's final Spider-Man film in the original trilogy. However, the arc never went beyond that film, as the live-action Venom movies used Eddie and the symbiote's other storylines, such as Venom: Lethal Protector (1993) and Planet of the Symbiotes (1995). In those comics, the duo actually call a truce with Peter and reluctantly work with him. However, the films do not feature Spider-Man at all.

Another exciting addition is Gwen Stacy as Spider-Gwen. Originally, the character suffered a tragic fate, dying after her neck was snapped in The Amazing Spider-Man #121 1973. Although she never returned to the main Earth-616 timeline, Marvel Comics brought her back as Spider-Gwen in Edge of Spider-Verse #2 in 2014, which took place on Earth-65. The character was so popular that she got her own solo series and appeared in the hit Spider-Verse films.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2 will premiere in January 2027 on Disney+.
