Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Manhas already seen Peter Parker go up against unique villains, but the next episode will pit the fledgling hero against another crime fighter. Although other superheros have been mentioned, the imminent arrival of Daredevil marks the first major appearance of one in the series. Once more, the character will be played by Charlie Cox, who commanded the role to rave reviews in Netflix’s Daredevil series and has since returned to it in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Echo, with his own series Daredevil: Born Again on the way.
ScreenRant unveils a new look at an upcoming fight between Spider-Man and Daredevil from the next step in the Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man release cycle. In it, Peter finds himself somewhat outmatched by The Man Without Fear who, by the looks of things, has had much more time to practice being a crime-fighting vigilante than he has. Take a look at the clip, above and get ready to watch the next batch of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man episodes tomorrow on Disney+.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Knows Exactly What To Borrow (& Ignore) From The MCU
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man occupies a unique space among Marvel projects. It’s not technically a part of the interconnected Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the rules of the multiverse ensure that it is only a short web swing away from the world of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. The show still takes advantage of certain aspects of the MCU for its own good, however, as is especially evidenced by the casting of Daredevil: Born Againstar Charlie Cox. It’s a move that highlights how the series is unafraid to borrow the best aspects of the MCU, even as it tells a different story.
This approach stretches beyond characters like Daredevil as well, with the writers taking cues from certain MCU story arcs while putting their own spin on it. For example, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man cast Colman Domingo as classic Spidey villain Norman Osborn, but Osborn appears set to take on a mentor role occupied in the MCU by Tony Stark. The arc between Spider-Man and his mentor was clearly something the writers wanted to carry over from the MCU, though having Norman occupy that role–especially in the sense that works with Peter as Spider-Man and not simply as a student or intern–is a twist that feels unique to the series.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is different from the MCU in plenty of other ways, including the introduction of a brand new friend group for Peter. Mary Jane Watson and Gwen Stacy have not been included in the show’s first two batches of episodes, with other characters like Nico Minoru and Pearl Pangan being included instead. Even as that happens, however, the series mentions the events of Captain America: Civil War, including the Sokovia accords, while leaving Spider-Man out of the conflict. So far, the writers have made bold choices to acknowledge events MCU fans will recognize from the films even as they try to bring something new to the Spider-Man story.
The next batch of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man episodes will be released to Disney+ on February 12.
