Perez Hilton’s Family “Immediately Fled” the Home Amid His “Severe” Mental Health Crisis
Content warning: This story discusses self-harm.
Perez Hilton’s loved ones are by his side.
As the media personality remains hospitalized after appearing to engage in self-harm during an Aug. 4 TikTok livestream, his family shared an update on his treatment.
“Perez’s condition remains serious but stable,” his family wrote on his website in an Aug. 8 statement. “He experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will require surgery in the coming days. His treatment and recovery will be a long process. We are grateful that Perez was able to spend time with his mother and sister yesterday.”
“We want to confirm that Perez remains hospitalized under Florida’s Baker Act,” they added of the Florida Mental Health Act, which provides crisis services for people suffering from mental illness, per the Florida Department of Children and Families. “His communication has been extremely limited and confined to immediate family, medical providers, and others directly involved in his care. He has not communicated with the media or issued any public statements.”
As Hilton (real name Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr.) takes the road to recovery, his family asks that the public show some respect amid the heartbreaking circumstances.
The statement added, “As our family remains focused on Perez’s treatment and recovery, we also need the space and privacy to care for everyone affected by this situation.”
And that includes the blogger’s three young kids.
“We again respectfully ask members of the media to leave the home and surrounding area, stop following family members, and cease photographing Perez’s children,” the statement added. “We also ask photo agencies not to purchase, publish, or distribute any photographs of the children that may have been taken.”

“Perez’s children remain safe and are being cared for by immediate family,” they continued. “Please allow them and the rest of the family the peace and privacy they desperately need during this incredibly difficult time.”
Police were dispatched to Hilton's Miami home on the night of Aug. 4 after he went on a TikTok livestream where he appeared to be covered in blood while holding what seemed to be a knife.
Police said they eventually were able to make contact with a person, later confirmed to be Hilton, inside the residence, noting that he had "been safely recovered and transported by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to a local hospital, where he is receiving medical attention."
Following the incident, Hilton’s rep made a plea regarding the public’s sensitivity to the situation.
"Our focus remains on Perez’s health, recovery and the privacy of both him and his family during this incredibly difficult time," Hilton’s agent Dante Rusciolelli told Us Weekly Aug. 5. “We respectfully ask that everyone continue to honor his privacy while he receives the care he needs.”
