PancakeSwap tells CAKE holders on opBNB to bridge out before November 23

PancakeSwap has a deadline for anyone holding CAKE on opBNB: move your tokens before November 23 at 00:00 UTC.

After that, the LayerZero-powered route that carries CAKE off opBNB will be discontinued. The cutoff follows LayerZero’s decision to end offchain support for opBNB. The advisory went out on October 26, which gives holders about four weeks of runway.

What is changing and who is affected

The change is narrow but concrete. It affects CAKE sitting on opBNB, and specifically the LayerZero route used to bridge it elsewhere.

CAKE is native to BNB Chain but is built to move across several networks. PancakeSwap’s bridge lets holders transfer CAKE between supported chains at a 1:1 ratio without fees. Send one token, receive one token, pay nothing to PancakeSwap for the trip.

That bridge does not hold your funds itself. Transfers are non-custodial and handled by third-party providers. For opBNB, the provider in question is LayerZero.

Once LayerZero stops supporting opBNB offchain, the CAKE route out of that network goes dark with it.

The practical action is simple. If you hold CAKE on opBNB, bridge it to BNB Chain before 00:00 UTC on November 23.

Why LayerZero is pulling back

LayerZero’s exit from opBNB is not a one-off. It is part of a broader effort by LayerZero to end support for less active chains, with opBNB included in a group of 13 networks slated for reduced services starting September 30, 2026.

The emissions proposal running in parallel

The bridging notice lands while PancakeSwap is also weighing changes to CAKE’s supply side. A governance proposal from October 14-15 would cut daily CAKE emissions from 22,500 tokens to 7,000 tokens.

That works out to a reduction of approximately 69% in daily issuance. The same proposal would raise the share of trading fees going to liquidity providers to 88%.

Those are proposals, not finished policy.

What this means for CAKE holders

For individual holders, the immediate risk is operational rather than financial. Bridging CAKE out before November 23 keeps the process routine. The research findings flag that holders who fail to act could face problems reaching their opBNB holdings.

For CAKE specifically, the items to watch are straightforward. First, whether holders clear opBNB well ahead of the November 23 cutoff. Second, whether the emissions proposal advances, since a cut from 22,500 to 7,000 tokens per day would reshape the token’s supply schedule and the incentives for those providing liquidity on PancakeSwap.
