As with all medications, GLP-1s may cause side effects. Dr. Marc Ronert, plastic surgeon and CEO of IMAGE Skincare, says he’s seeing firsthand how widespread GLP-1 usage is impacting his patient’s overall skin health.

What is Ozempic face?
The term “Ozempic face” is a term coined by social media that refers to weight loss-related changes in the face and body.
Dr. Ronert clarifies, “As the skin’s volume decreases, patients may notice hollow cheeks, more prominent wrinkles, skin laxity, and sagging around the jawline and neck.” Similar effects can also occur in the body.
This is all due to a reduction in fat, collagen, and overall structural support in the skin caused by rapid weight loss.
“When fat and muscle volume drop quickly, the skin can't always bounce back, leading to a prematurely aged appearance. This is what is now referred to as "Ozempic face,” explains Dr. Ronert.
Can Ozempic face be prevented?
While it’s impossible to predict how GLP-1s will affect your face and body, Dr. Ronert says there are steps you can take to help with changes in skin. However, it’ll take consistency and forethought.
“I always tell patients it's much easier to preserve skin quality than it is to restore it later, so taking a preventative approach is important,” he says. That means being proactive about incorporating the proper treatments and formulas in order to see results.
