Outlander's Spinoff Series Needs To Add These 2 Characters To Make Any Sense

5 hours ago 3

The Outlander spinoff series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, certainly sounds intriguing, but a couple of additional characters are needed to make the story work. With Claire and Jamie's story coming to a close, it's time to expand this fictional world into new TV shows, and Blood of My Blood is Starz's answer. So far, it has been revealed that the series will bounce between Jamie and Claire's parents—one couple set in the 18th century and the other in the 20th. Blood of My Blood will, therefore, feature an array of new characters, but two that are more familiar would be a meaningful touch.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood will star Jamie Roy and Harriet Slater as Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie, respectively, as well as Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine as Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp. The Outlander series has already revealed tidbits about these characters' stories. Brian and Ellen Fraser were a romance that was never supposed to happen, while Julia and Henry are doomed to die young in a tragic car accident. Diving into their stories will certainly be interesting. However, Blood of My Blood may fall flat without the time travel element.

Outlander: Blood Of My Blood Needs Jemmy & Mandy MacKenzie

The Outlander Spinoff Can Introduce The Adult Jemmy & Mandy

Jemmy and Mandy in Outlander

Outlander: Blood of My Blood may be all about exploring Jamie and Claire's parents, but a time-travel series spinoff needs some time-traveling characters. For this reason, Jemmy and Mandy MacKenzie—Brianna and Roger's children—would be the perfect additions to the new Outlander spinoff. While these two are young children in the parent series, they could easily be cast as adults in Blood of My Blood. Since both are time travelers, they could travel to the time when their great-grandparents were alive, young, and falling in love.

So far, there has been no hint that Jemmy, Mandy, or any other time-traveling characters will appear in Outlander: Blood of My Blood. The only cast members teased play characters from either 18th-century Scotland or 20th-century England. Still, Jemmy and Mandy could be a surprise the Outlander spinoff is keeping under its sleeve until the series releases. This would be a significant addition since it would be strange for the series not to feature any time traveling.

An Outlander Spinoff Must Involve Time Travel To Work

It Doesn't Look Like Blood Of My Blood Will Involve Time Travel (Yet)

Outlander may be a romance, but the primary draw of the series is that it is a time-travel fantasy. The idea of learning more about Jamie and Claire's parents and their respective romances is intriguing, but a spinoff about only this would be somewhat disappointing. There is so much at play in Outlander that the show itself hasn't yet explained. Some of this is sure to come to light in Outlander season 8, especially following the reveal that Master Raymond is again involved. Still, with destiny so clearly at work in Jamie and Claire's stories, magic must come into play in Blood of My Blood.

Author Diana Gabaldon has already said that Claire's parents were not time travelers.

Jamie and Claire are meant to find one another in Outlander, even across time and space. This wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for their parents' respective stories. Outlander: Blood of My Blood must explore what sort of magic brought the Frasers and Beauchamps together. If time travelers like Mandy and Jemmy have something to do with it, it would mean a poetic, full-circle moment for the overarching Outlander franchise.

Jemmy & Mandy Fit Perfectly With Blood Of My Blood's Premise

This Outlander Spinoff Is All About Family

The teaser trailer for Outlander: Blood of My Blood mentions that the young Fraser and Beauchamp couples are connected by destiny despite their stories taking place centuries apart. Of course, this destiny comes down to Jamie and Claire—but what else? The title Blood of My Blood provides further clues regarding the theme of the spinoff series. Jamie and Claire refer to one another as "blood of my blood," but this is also used to reference their family. Their parents are their blood, but so are their children and grandchildren.

This is a generational tale at its core, and seeing Jamie and Claire's parents brought together by their grandchildren would contribute to the show's profound emotional impact.

For this reason, Jemmy and Mandy would fit perfectly within Blood of My Blood. This is a generational tale at its core, and seeing Jamie and Claire's parents brought together by their grandchildren would contribute to the show's profound emotional impact. To make matters even better, Jemmy and Mandy would still feel like new characters in Outlander: Blood of My Blood since they would be adults rather than the children they are seen to be in Outlander. Only time will tell if these two really are featured in the new spinoff. Currently, there is still time to hope.
