Outlander season 7, episode 15, ended on a cliffhanger, but this couldn't have happened at a better time for the Starz series. The last audience saw, Claire Fraser was about to undergo a complicated surgery while Jamie sat praying by her side. She had wound up caught in the crossfire during the Battle of Monmouth, and the gunshot wound to her abdomen was deemed hopeless by the Continental physician. Thankfully, Denzell Hunter, who had trained under Claire herself, stepped in to help. Still, this Outlander episode ended without revealing whether Claire would live or die.
Unfortunately, Starz has extended the amount of time it will take for audiences to get any answers. While new episodes of Outlander season 7 had been released weekly, the finale was pushed off until January 17, 2025. This means fans have to wait two whole weeks between Claire getting shot and discovering what will come of her. As frustrating as this is, this is actually the best possible time for an additional little break in the Outlander series.

Things like Jamie's believed death, Claire's marriage to Lord John Grey, Wiliam's capture, and Brianna's trouble with Rob Cameron have all happened in a far shorter period of time. Audiences can hardly breathe before a significant conflict is quickly resolved.

Claire's gunshot wound and surgery are likely to go as quickly as everything else in Outlander season 7. Her recovery will mark the end of this installment, and the Starz series will then segue into season 8, which is expected to be released near the end of 2025. So, while a week off before the Outlander season 7 finale is a bit frustrating, it creates a chance for audiences to take a breath.

Outlander season 7, episode 15, was a truly powerful episode, with many meaningful scenes surrounding Claire's tragic injury. Jamie writing his resignation in Claire's blood was especially impactful, and the performance from actor Sam Heughan deserves careful digestion. Additionally, the scenes during which Claire and Jamie discussed their mortality under a sepia sky were deeply poetic, shifting the tone of Outlander to reflect the change in these characters' dynamics. Though Outlander must still power forward, a week without a new episode allows these moments to really sink in.
