Our Favorite Smoke Detectors Are Getting Smarter With Ring Compatibility

Ring and Kidde have partnered up for CES 2025 and a new set of smoke detectors that will be smarter than ever thanks to Ring compatibility. Kidde already dominates our list of the best smoke detectors for your home, while Ring frequently appears in our picks for the best home security cameras. Together, they're a powerful match and one of the most interesting collaborations in home safety we've seen for 2025.

The new Kidde smoke detectors will have built-in Ring technology to work directly with Ring's app and come in two flavors. The first is a smart smoke alarm while the second combines smoke and carbon monoxide monitoring.

Both work via AA batteries and will be able to send notifications directly to the Ring app (which also works for Ring cameras, the Ring security system and more), including both smoke detection notifications and low battery notifications. No additional hubs, connections or apps are needed to get full functionality from these detectors, just a QR code scan to begin.

Kidde's fire safety sensors are some of the best available and appear to have improved with this latest release: Kidde's tests show 25% faster smoke detection than recent competitor models and up to 3x more precise smoke detection. They also make their detectors with safeguards, so they're less likely to activate when you're practicing your wok cooking -- a feature we particularly appreciated during our testing. If you already have a Ring cam or system, expanding it with a Kidde smoke detector sounds like a very efficient choice.

Along with Kidde's new Ring-enabled detectors, Ring is also offering a separate, budget-friendly smoke and CO monitoring subscription. At $5 per month, it seems like a good fit for those who don't want to pay for a full home monitoring subscription but still want live agents who can request emergency help in case one of the fire detectors is activated.

Ring offers free alerts for Kidde detectors, but you can add a fire monitoring subscription, too.

However, don't get the subscription confused with Ring Home plans, which also start at $5 and only include video storage and object recognition for Ring cams, increasing to home monitoring and backup features for the Ring Alarm system. This new plan is a standalone option just for the fire-cautious who may not have any other Ring devices.

You can find Kidde's detectors come April 2025: They'll start as a Home Depot exclusive, available in Home Depot stores or online for $55 for the smoke model and $75 for the smoke + CO model. We can't wait to explore their functionality in more detail, but if you're doing some spring shopping watch for the "with Ring" label on Kidde's smoke detectors (which otherwise may look quite similar to other models).
