Shemar Moore is reuniting with another former co-star on the upcoming spinoff S.W.A.T. Exiles.
Moore is coming back to the role of Daniel "Hondo" Harrelson Jr. for the new series, which was announced just days after the S.W.A.T. series finale in May 2025, along with serving as an executive producer. He'll be mostly interacting with a new group, though familiar faces will pop in. Jay Harrington and Patrick St. Esprit will appear in Exiles, respectively, returning as Sergeant David "Deacon" Kay and Commander Robert Hicks.
Along with the news that Selma Blair (Cruel Intentions) and Jerry O'Connell (Scream 2) will guest star in S.W.A.T. Exiles in undisclosed roles, it was quietly confirmed that original S.W.A.T. actor David Lim will also make a guest appearance in the spinoff. Lim is slated to appear in season 1's penultimate episode, reprising the role of Victor Tan.
CBS via MovieStillsDBLim is among the few actors who remained throughout the CBS action drama's entire run, which began in November 2017, and stands out amid S.W.A.T.'s history of high-profile exits. He previously wrote candidly about the spinoff news and his disappointment with the original team, sharing in an Instagram caption: “It felt like we were brushed aside when there could’ve been a moment of reflection and recognition.”
Executives at Sony Pictures Television, which produces the spinoff, swiftly clarified in interviews that they'd hope to bring back more veteran actors alongside Moore. Victor Tan's presence will be crucial because of his memorable personal and professional ups and downs, which will help the new S.W.A.T. team.
Those new cast additions to S.W.A.T. Exiles include Lucy Barrett, Adain Bradley, Zyra Gorecki, Freddy Miyares, and Ronen Rubinstein. They'll step into the spotlight as a high-profile mission goes wrong. This will lead Hondo to come out of his forced retirement in an effort to lead an experimental unit made up of new and untested recruits. As part of that process, he will have to handle generational divides and clashing personalities to protect the city.

The spinoff, which hails from showrunner and executive producer Jason Ning, doesn't yet have a platform or premiere date announced. Although many audiences hoped for S.W.A.T. season 9, the long-running staple was brought to a conclusion at CBS as the broadcast network opted to shift priorities.
But the S.W.A.T. Exiles offshoot is doing a lot to live up to what came before, including the important step of bringing back some of the people that viewers are already invested in.
