Original British Cast Of Broadway’s ‘Operation Mincemeat’ To Play Extra Final-Night Performance Before Making Way For New American Cast

The original British cast of Broadway‘s Operation Mincemeat, the offbeat musical embraced by critics and audiences alike, will perform an additional, second show on its final performance date of Sunday, February 22, producers announced today.

The decision was made in response to what the producers say is “overwhelming demand and an overbooked waitlist” for the troupe’s final performance. The musical’s original Broadway cast – Natasha Hodgson, David Cumming, Zoë Roberts, Tony Award winner Jak Malone and Claire-Marie Hall – will perform the second show at 7:30 p.m./ET February 22 (in addition to the sold-out matinee).

The announcement comes on the day that Operation Mincemeat extends for the 7th time on Broadway, now booking through to September 13. When the original British cast departs, the show will be performed by an all-American cast for the first time.

“We could not be more ecstatic to be able to share our final few hours on Broadway with 790 more people on Sunday night in the added show,” said SpitLip, the troupe consisting of Cumming, Felix Hagan, Hodgson and Roberts, said in a statement. “It’s a testament to our incredible fans that have been with us from day one. We are doing this for them.”

Across 1,807 performances – from its origins on the London Fringe to the West End and now Broadway, where the show runs simultaneously – Operation Mincemeat has cultivated a fervent fanbase, dubbed “Mincefluencers.” On Broadway alone, more than 2,000 audience members – roughly one in fifty – have bought tickets for multiple performances, including 53 superfans who have purchased tickets for ten or more shows.

The synopsis: “In Operation Mincemeat, it’s 1943, and the Allied Forces are on the ropes. Luckily, they’ve got a trick up their sleeve. Well, not up their sleeve, per se, but rather inside the pocket of a stolen corpse. Equal parts farce, thriller, and Ian Fleming-style spy caper (with an assist from Mr. Fleming himself), Operation Mincemeat tells the wildly improbable and hilarious true story of the covert operation that turned the tide of WWII.”

Directed by Robert Hastie, Operation Mincemeat began performances on Broadway on February 15 and is currently playing at the Golden Theatre.

Operation Mincemeat is produced on Broadway and in the West End by Avalon (in association with SpitLip). The show was commissioned by New Diorama Theatre, co-commissioned by The Lowry, and also supported by the Rhinebeck Writers Retreat.
