One Piece's Sanji Actor Promises Season 2 Is "Bigger, Faster, Louder"

4 hours ago 7

With One Piece having recently wrapped filming on season 2, Taz Skylar has teased what season 2 has in store for its new characters, and what lies on the horizon beyond the upcoming season. The Netflix fantasy hit is based on Eiichiro Oda's beloved manga series, following an ambitious young pirate embarking on his quest to prove himself as the king of the pirates. In One Piece seasons 1 and 2, Skylar portrays Sanji Vinsmoke, a young cook who joins Monkey D. Luffy's crew after meeting the group of misfits at his mentor's restaurant.

With Skylar set to star alongside Daisy Ridley in the upcoming action-thriller Cleaner, the actor sat down with ScreenRant to talk about what the next chapter of One Piece has in store for audiences. As one of several new actors set to join the crew, Skylar opened his experience working alongside the new cast members. While everyone brought their own distinct personalities to the production, the actor revealed that he had found the rest of the cast easy to work with:

Yeah, you know what? I think everybody who joins that show is such an individual at their core that I think the degree to which everybody is an individual, an original individual, just makes everybody really easy to get along with. Like a little lone wolf that comes to the pack just to hang out.

However, when asked about whether One Piece could find itself renewed for a further third season, Skylar admitted that he hadn't looked too far ahead in case plans change or other commitments arise. Despite this, the actor affirmed he would be focused the moment confirmation of the production was given. Check out Skylar's explanation below:

You know what, I try to not look further in front of me than the next hour that I have in my life. I don't know where I'm going to be in two months or in three or tomorrow, so I try not to look too far ahead. Once we know what we're doing, I will hone into the thing that we're doing. It's kind of my way to go about it.

What Skylar's Tease Means For One Piece's Future

Netflix May Be Waiting To See If Season 2 Builds On Season 1's Success

One Piece season 2's cast will see several new faces join the Straw Hat pirates, both friends and foes. For the crew of the Going Merry, Charithra Chandran and Lera Abova will step aboard as Nefertari Vivi and Nico Robin respectively, while the crew's reindeer medic Chopper will make his debut, though no actor for the character has been revealed yet. From Skylar's tease, it is clear that the cast have fit in well with the existing members of the crew.

One Piece's second season is poised to debut Tony Tony Chopper. With a wealth of voice-over talent, there are many people who could provide his voice.

However, while audiences may be eager to find out if future chapters of Oda's beloved manga will be brought to screens, it is clear that the show's future has yet to be determined beyond season 2. One Piece season 1 not only became Netflix's highest-performing series in the second half of 2023, but ignited interest in the original anime too, with Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters celebrating its success in the face of much skepticism. Despite this, with the costs that a series like One Piece will bring, Netflix may be waiting to see how season 2 performs to determine its future.
