One Piece's Creator Finally Explains One of Egghead's Biggest Mysteries, Teasing a Huge Future Development

2 hours ago 5

One Piece's Egghead Arc was filled with lore reveals and questions about mysteries, but the creator, Eichiro Oda, more or less answered one of the biggest and most divisive ones. This has massive implications for the future of the series, and could be one of the most interesting plot points going forward. One Piece is a series filled with mystery and intrigue, but what's so remarkable about it is that, the series is still teasing fans with big mysteries and even bigger reveals this late into the series' life.

In an SBS for volume 110 of One Piece, Eichiro Oda was asked about the scene where Luffy was exhausted from using Gear 5 and how there was miraculously food near him. Despite being a relatively small moment, this scene raised questions and speculations about who could've given Luffy the food. Furthermore, Saturn was shocked about it and wondered where the food could've come from. Finally, Oda revealed that none other than Admiral Kizaru was responsible for giving Luffy food and saving his life.

Kizaru Was The One Who Saved Luffy

The Admiral's Actions Hints At Something Huge

While Oda didn't explicitly say it was Kizaru, he said "Speed of Light" and emphasized. This is obviously talking about Kizaru, since his Devil Fruit, the Pika Pika no Mi, allows him to be a Light human and control, manipulate and turn into it. Furthermore, Oda saying the person who gave Luffy the food was too fast to see is also another confirmation that it was Kizaru since he was the only person on the island, and in the series, who can travel that fast.

Kizaru helping Luffy is planting the seeds for his eventual betrayal of the Navy and the World Government. This would make sense given he was ordered to kill his close friend, Vegapunk, and his anger and tears at Akainu shows how much pain he is in. Furthermore, Sentomaru being hurt and having nowhere to go anymore after defying CP-0 is another reason why Kizaru could betray the Navy. Kizaru is almost like Sentomaru's father figure, and seeing someone close to him be used and discarded like that will undoubtedly be enough to turn him into a traitor.

This would also be in line with Kizaru's ideals. His Unclear Justice gives room for him to change allegiances based on the truth. Kizaru turning traitor is made even more possible after Vegapunk reveals the truth about the world to millions and uncovers the true evil of the World Government. This is a good reason for him to stop working for a tyrannical entity.

This Reveal Should've Been In The Manga

While SBS does give valuable and sometimes funny answers, Kizaru being the one to help Luffy is something that should've been in the manga, considering how huge it is. It would've worked well as a setup for Kizaru's later betrayal, but spoiling such crucial info in the SBS is a huge wasted opportunity. This isn't the first time something like this has happened though, as Zoro's lineage was also confirmed in the SBS, as well as other interesting information that could've been in the series.

While this reveal would've worked even better in the source material, it still teases something big to come. Kizaru is one of One Piece's most powerful characters, so his betrayal could be one of the biggest moments in the series. Who he joins and how he comes to this decision will be interesting too, and is something fans can look forward to.
