One Piece Just Revealed Imu’s True Face After 8 Years and Fans Are Stunned

1 week ago 8

After eight long years of hiding the character in silhouette, Eiichiro Oda has finally revealed Imu’s face in the latest chapter of One Piece. First introduced back in the Reverie arc, the ruler of the World Government has remained one of the biggest mysteries in the series. Since then, fans have spent years theorizing about his true identity, powers, and appearance. But with the series now in its Final Saga, the ruler of the world has been slowly stepping onto the front lines, leading right up to this massive reveal.

One Piece Finally Reveals Imu's Real Name And His Insane Display Of Haki

One Piece Chapter #1179 opens up with Imu completely ignoring the Five Elders' warnings. Instead of listening to their advice about sending a Marine Admiral or the Elders themselves to Elbaph, the mysterious ruler decides to handle the situation personally.

The moment he actually arrives on the island, a gigantic pentagram tears through the sky and starts dropping black lightning everywhere. His mere presence is so overwhelmingly strong that it instantly brings the surrounding trees and houses to life, all while a massive wave of Conqueror's Haki completely knocks out the nearby giants.

This chapter finally gives Imu an official introduction box that labels him the "King of the World," Saint Nerona Imu, and confirms his status as one of the original twenty founders of the World Government.

Even so, the most shocking detail by far is the description of his actual powers. The panel does not bother listing a specific Mythical Zoan model or a Paramecia classification. Instead, it simply states his ability as Devil Fruit, confirming his status as one the users.

Imu's Character Design Reveals a Wild Mix of Lunarian and Demonic Traits

Imu As Seen In One Piece Chapter 1179

On top of Aurust Castle, Imu is seen coughing up blood while going through a monstrous physical transformation. The panel officially reveals him as a male character, resembling the tanned skin and long white hair of a Lunarian. He is dressed in a black cloak bearing the Depths Covenant symbol while also sporting a long, devilish tail.

Topping it all off, he wields a huge, zigzagged naginata blade. Just like Mihawk and Whitebeard, it seems to be one of the 12 Supreme Grade Blades. It’s only fair that Oda gives the King of the World a blade of his caliber.

Imu’s overall character design is a wild blend of both holy and demonic themes. He has large horns on his head and is completely covered in circular white tattoos, with the most noticeable one being an eye placed right on his right hand. He is almost as huge as an average Elbaph's giant.

But the most chilling part of the whole appearance is the awakened Hagoromo smoke cloud floating around him, similar to the ones seen around Rob Lucci and the Five Elders in their awakened form. This proves that this transformation is actually Imu’s awakened form, hinting at his Devil Fruit to be a Mythical Zoan.

Luffy Needs to Reach Joyboy's Level of Haki to Survive His Fight Against Imu

Monkey D. Luffy As Seen In One Piece

The sudden arrival of Imu completely breaks the established power scaling for One Piece. The sheer size of his magic circle is so ridiculously huge that it easily swallows up the main town and the castle of Elbaph, covering an area that easily dwarfs almost any other ability shown in the story so far.

Back when Luffy first unlocked Gear 5 during the fight with Kaido, the general assumption was that he had officially reached his absolute peak. But when facing down Imu's overwhelming magic, a sword that almost certainly carries its own unique abilities, and his terrifying level of Haki, the Straw Hat captain still has plenty of room to grow.

If Luffy plans to make it out of this encounter alive, he will have to fully master his Haki and achieve the legendary strength of Joyboy, especially considering the stamina drain of Gear 5 is still a huge weakness holding him back. With the One Piece manga on break next week, fans will have to wait a little longer to see Imu in action.
