One Piece Fans Can Read the Latest Volume Free, But With a Hilarious Catch

2 weeks ago 5

For the first time ever, One Piece's publisher, Shueisha, is allowing fans to read its latest volume for free as part of a new promotional campaign but with one hilarious catch. With the release of volume #110 of One Piece only a few days away, Shueisha is going all in with promoting the volume's release and its latest advertisement is simply genius.

One Piece recently shared a new website that seemingly allows fans to read the upcoming volume #110 completely for free. However, as soon as fans scroll past a few pages, the panels begin to disappear one by one before being replaced by the World Government's symbol and a 404 error message stating the page has been deleted by the World Government. The message even hilariously states that the page has been removed because "it may disturb world peace" before scrolling to reveal a link to buy the latest volume.

Shueisha Steps Out of the Box With Its Unique New One Piece Advertisement

As seen in this post on X by GeoffThew, the page only allows fans to scroll up until page 3 of chapter #1113, after which the panels on subsequent pages begin to disappear. That said, both the website and the glitching effect are easily accessible even outside Japan and can be best viewed on a desktop.

Volume #110 of One Piece is titled " The Upheaval of the Era".

Given the exciting chapters contained within, it makes sense that Shueisha has gone all out promoting volume #110. That said, the latest "trial" is by far the most creative promotion the franchise has ever come up with and perfectly fits the theme of the volume as well. Volume #110 will include chapter #1111 up until chapter #1121, which contain the biggest revelations in Vegapunk's broadcast and the series as a whole.

Shueisha's New One Piece Advertisement Blurs the Lines Between the Manga and Reality

Besides being incredibly novel, Shueisha's newest promotion for volume #110 also cleverly mirrors the way the World Government attempts to interrupt Vegapunk's message in the story, seemingly blurring the line between the manga and reality. One Piece has also released a promotional video for volume #110 that similarly sees Vegapunk's broadcast interrupting a television feed before being cut off but the new website prank clearly takes the cake and has effectively drawn all eyes to the volume's release.

Overall, One Piece's Egghead Arc continues to defy expectations in every regard, and volume #110 is arguably the most exciting one of the lot. While promotions for volume releases have been unremarkable until now, it seems Shuiesha has finally stepped up its marketing game, and it will be interesting to see whether any of One Piece's future promotions will be able to top this one.

Created by Eiichiro Oda, One Piece is a multimedia franchise that began as a manga series and follows the adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates as led by Monkey D. Luffy. Luffy, an enthusiastic pirate with a thirst for adventure, is afflicted by a mysterious curse that gives him various powers he uses to protect himself and his friends. The manga eventually gave way to the anime series, with the two being some of history's longest-running anime and manga series. Along with over fifty video games made over the years, the series entered the live-action world with Netflix's 2023 adaptation.
