What Happened In One Piece Episode 1170?

One Piece episode #1170, “Get the Key! Luffy vs. Scopper Gaban”, picked up where episode #1169 left off, with Gaban telling Luffy that he had to fight him if he wanted Loki’s key. Luffy didn’t want to at first, but all it took was a little taunting from Gaban to get Luffy to fight. To everyone’s surprise, though, Luffy couldn’t even touch Gaban, and Gaban was so powerful that Zoro had to get in on the fight to protect him from a powerful attack.

Luffy was eventually forced to use Gear 5 as he and Zoro prepared to go all out, but before they could, Gaban suddenly surrendered and gave them the key. Luffy tried to protest, but Gaban just said for Luffy to come find him if Elbaph was still in one piece when everything was over, and as Gaban left the castle, he thought back to his last meeting with Shanks, who told him to give Luffy a chance when he met him.

Meanwhile, back with the Holy Knights of God, Gunko created another summoning circle and brought two new Holy Knights to Elbaph: Shepherd Sommers and Rimoshifu Killingham. Shamrock was also told to return to Mary Geoise to help with the chaos brought about by the Levely, but before he left, Shamrock told them all to play a game for dealing with the giant children.

One Piece’s Anime Perfectly Sets Up Its Next Big Conflict

Overall, there was a lot to love about One Piece episode #1170. Not only did Luffy’s fight with Gaban do a great job of selling Gaban as an absolute menace, all with some phenomenal animation from Kyosuke Yamazaki, Yong-Ce Tu, and Toshinori Fukuzawa, but the major story beat of the Holy Knights of God starting their mission was also great to see, and seeing the group acting so silly as opposed to being any sort of generic villains also did wonders to make them entertaining villains in such a short time, as well.
