One Of The Best Western Remakes Jumps Into Netflix's Top 10 US Chart 17 Years Later

3:10 to Yuma has made its way onto the Netflix top 10 chart in the United States. 3:10 to Yuma is a Western genre remake of the 1957 film of the same name. It tells the story of a rancher who agrees to take charge of an outlaw who is waiting to catch his train to attend court in Yuma. While waiting, the outlaw tries to outsmart the rancher, launching the film into an action-filled battle of wits and wills. 3:10 to Yuma features a leading cast including Russell Crowe, Christian Bale, Ben Foster, Logan Lerman, and Peter Fonda.

Now, 3:10 to Yuma has made it onto the United States global top 10 on Netflix. 3:10 to Yuma came in at no. 9 for the week of September 2 to September 8, coming in right above the family animated movie Trolls Band Together. Topping the list this week for the United States were Rebel Ridge at no. 1, The Deliverance at no. 2, and Sonic the Hedgehog at no. 3. Rebel Ridge and The Deliverance were also the top 2 on the global scale. 3:10 to Yuma did not make it onto Netflix's Global Top 10.

The Western Is Back In

3:10 to Yuma's Netflix charting came just after the film arrived on the platform. 3:10 to Yuma came to Netflix on September 1, meaning that this was the first week that the film would be eligible to be counted for the Netflix charts. Its newness is likely part of what led to its success, as it would be recommended as a title that was new on Netflix. Other titles on the Netflix charts followed a similar pattern, including the 2015 film Aloha, which made it into the top 10 globally and in the United States.

Another reason that 3:10 to Yuma may have been so successful on Netflix is because of the rise in Western genre content. While films like Horizon: An American Saga have not been as successful, the Western series Yellowstone has been a huge success over the course of its run. Yellowstone has led to spinoffs, including 1883 and 1923. Other Western series have been successful, including Lawmen: Bass Reeves. The TV-led Western film rejuvenation likely helped boost interest in titles like 3:10 to Yuma because people are more interested in the Western again.

James Tso sneaks up behind Leaphorn and holds him at gunpoint in the Dark Winds season 1 finale

As exciting as 3:10 to Yuma's Netflix arrival was, the streamer had me even more excited by another Western-like title. This title is the show Dark Winds, a two-season cop drama that originally aired on AMC. The series is set in the 1970s Southwest, telling the story of two Navajo police officers solving a double murder case. Starring a personal favorite TV actor, Zahn McClarnon (of Reservation Dogs fame), Dark Winds is a show replete with twists and turns that fans of the Western and similar settings will not want to miss, especially after exploring Westerns like 3:10 to Yuma.
