Olivia Munn 'didn't have the energy' to make husband John Mulaney's birthday cake... after last year's fail

Olivia Munn admitted she didn't bake her husband John Mulaney's birthday cake like she usually does. 

On Monday the Magic Mike star, 44 — who recently confirmed her secret nuptials to the comedian — took to her Instagram Stories to share a snap of the pre-made cakes she purchased for her man to celebrate his forty-second birthday.

One chocolate iced treat read 'Happy Birthday,' while the vanilla iced dessert read, 'John John!' Both treats boasted four red candles.

'I didn't have the energy to make a (bad) birthday cake this year so I went to the grocery store,' the Oklahoma native wrote above the post.

And although she didn't bake this year's cakes from scratch, the actress had a very good reason why. 

Last year when she carefully crafted John's cake the pair's son, Malcolm Hiệp, two, had destroyed the confection she had spent hours on.

She added a snap of 2023's cake writing, 'Last year's,' with Justin Bieber's Sorry playing. 

The three tier messy desert was decorated with vanilla icing and a pile of rainbow sprinkles plus candles that read 'Happy Birthday.'

Oliva shared a clip of the silly cake fail at the time saying, 'I tried to make a four-layered birthday cake and the bottom layer is coming out.'

She quipped: 'Like and subscribe for more baking tips.' Later writing on another snap, 'The cake was delicious. And ugly. Success!'

The actress and Mulaney welcomed their son, Malcolm on Christmas Eve in December 2021 after going public with their relationship in Spring earlier that year.

The comedian's birthday celebration comes just  weeks after he secretly tied the knot with the X-Men: Apocalypse star over the July fourth weekend.

Only the couple's two year old and a witness were present during their New York nuptials at a friend's home, according to People. 

Eagle-eyed fans speculated they were engaged in late June when John shared a photo of himself wearing a wedding band before quickly removing the post. 

The New Girl actress revealed that she had her eggs frozen for future IVF procedures before she had a hysterectomy since discovering chemotherapy and radiation can affect fertility.

'After my diagnosis, we decided to try one more round of egg retrievals and hoped it was a good month,' she told Vogue in May.

She also revealed at that time that she had tried the procedure on three different occasions – when she was 33, 39 and most recently 42.
