NYT Strands today (game #731) - the answers
The answers to today's Strands, game #731, are…
- SUGAR
- FLOUR
- VANILLA
- CANDLES
- FROSTING
- COCOA
- SPANGRAM: BAKINGAISLE
- My rating: Moderate
- My score: Perfect
I like baking cakes, and have made a few nice ones over the years for my kids' birthdays.
My biggest success was a Pikachu/Pokemon cake I made when they were young, at which point I realized an important truth about these things: moldable frosting (more often called 'icing' in the UK) can do a lot of hard work towards turning something unrecognizable into something that will delight a seven-year-old. Seriously — you could almost forget about the cake inside it and just give them a pile of shaped yellow frosting and they'll be happy.
Despite this being a relatively straightforward Strands puzzle it took me the longest time to identify the Spangram. I spotted BAKING early on, and having already found SUGAR and FLOUR knew what the general theme was. But BAKING AISLE? That second half of the phrase took me a while.
Still, I got there in the end, and none of the other answers were too tricky apart from CANDLES, which I didn't think of initially due to them not being an ingredient as such.
Yesterday's NYT Strands answers (Tuesday, March 3, game #730)
- ORDERLY
- TIDY
- NEAT
- SHIPSHAPE
- CLEAN
- IMMACULATE
