Marvel presents yet another brand-new costume that could give Marvel Rivals fans their new favorite skin. Marvel Rivals has emphasized the popularity of legendary Marvel icons such as Black Panther, Hulk, Iron Man, and the Fantastic Four, and it has boosted the recognition of lesser-known characters like Jeff the Land Shark, Luna Snow, and Peni Parker. These heroes' Marvel Rivals designs and powers have made them accessible to a new generation of gamers and Marvel fans.

Despite distributing its attention equally between top-tier characters and more obscure figures, Marvel Rivals has yet to explore the full mythos of the Marvel Universe. Characters as famous as She-Hulk, Quicksilver, and the Green Goblin seem like obvious additions to Marvel Rivals. Yet, it may take a while for NetEasy and Marvel to integrate them into the game's unique mechanics and art style.

Another major Marvel character still missing from Marvel Rivals is an A-list cosmic character who would synergize well with Groot and Rocket Raccoon, Richard Rider a.k.a. Nova.

Nova Debuts His Perfect Marvel Rivals Skin In The Comics

Nova: Centurion #6 Agents OF SHIELD Variant Cover By Luciano Vecchio

Richard Rider aka Nova wears a shield variation of his costume in Luciano Vecchio art for Marvel's Stormbreakers

As part of Marvel's Stormbreakers initiative, artist Luciano Vecchio gives Nova a SHIELD-inspired costume in a variant cover for Nova: Centurion #6. Nova's new costume joins Thor's SHIELD suit from Netho Díaz's Mortal Thor #9 variant cover. Like Thor, Nova's new look blends his classic blue-and-yellow Nova Corps uniform with the grittier, tactical style of a SHIELD agent, complete with SHIELD logos on Nova's suit and helmet.

Marvel Rivals' fast-paced gameplay is the ideal setting for Nova to shine, probably as a Duelist. Nova's power set includes high-speed flight, gravimetric pulses, and human-rocket strikes, all tailor-made for an arena where mobility and burst damage are essential. Beyond his base kit, the potential for Nova's skins is staggering. Richard Rider's Marvel Rivals skins could include his regular Nova: Centurion look, plus costumes taken from The New Warriors, Countdown to Zero, and Stormbreakers' SHIELD-inspired uniform.

Nova Needs A Significant Push Outside Marvel Comics

Nova Is Extremely Underrated Despite His Power And Initial Fame

MARVEL'S NOVA FLYING

A Nova MCU show had been in development for years until Marvel Studios put it on an indefinite pause alongside Strange Academy and Terror Inc. Marvel Studios seems to be pivoting away from Disney+ shows, though Wonder Man's success leaves the door open for exceptions. Nova is a big enough character on his own to warrant an exception, and a mini-series that explores the aftermath of Xandar's destruction would fill a major MCU gap. Marvel's Nova show would likely require a significant budget and hence could be a major risk for the studio.

After 50 Years, This Iconic Marvel Hero's Logo Finally Makes Sense

50 years after his debut in the Marvel Universe, fans finally know the full truth about Nova's confusing logo, and the hidden power of his costume.

Nova’s presence in video games has been similarly rare. While Nova was a fan-favorite in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and a solid addition to Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, he has rarely been treated as a recurring video game character. Marvel's Avengers never added Nova to its roster, and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy only features a Richard Rider cameo in the form of a character file.

A major role in a game as massive as Marvel Rivals would turn things around for Nova, introducing a new generation of players to the Human Rocket and building the necessary hype for his eventual live-action debut. The timing couldn't be better for this push. Marvel Comics continues to elevate the stakes for Richard Rider in Nova: Centurion, and DC is also bringing its cosmic patrol lore to the forefront with the DCU's Lanterns show.

Which role do you think would fit Nova better in Marvel Rivals?
