Noel Gallagher is set to receive a major honour at BRIT Awards, it was confirmed on Wednesday, despite vowing never to attend ceremony again.
The singer-songwriter, 58, who reunited with his brother Liam for their mammoth Oasis reunion tour, is said to have 'defined British music' after the band took the UK by storm over the summer.
The BRIT Awards 2026 with Mastercard will take place on Saturday, February 28, from Manchester's Co-op Live, broadcasting on ITV and hosted by Jack Whitehall.
Noel, who once branded the ceremony 'forgettable,' will be awarded this year’s Songwriter of the Year award after saying he would only return if he won a gong for 'being the only person in England to write his own songs.'
Stacey Tang, Chair of the 2026 BRIT Awards Committee and Co-President of RCA Records at Sony Music UK said: 'For more than three decades, Noel has crafted songs that have become part of our collective story - bold, brilliant, and always recognisable.
'His songs have soundtracked memories for multiple generations and defined the spirit of British music globally.'

She continued: 'Honouring Noel as Songwriter of the Year celebrates a remarkable body of work and a creative force that continues to connect and inspire artists and fans worldwide.'
A source added to The Sun: 'The Brits are planning a special visual tribute to Noel too, which will showcase some of the highlights of his work before he picks up the awards.'
The Daily Mail has contacted Noel Gallagher's representative for comment.
Speaking in 2013, Noel said of the ceremony: 'It was an instantly forgettable night. There was nothing going on at the BRITs, there was nothing going on at the after-show parties.
'There are no characters left in the music business. I saw the drummer from Muse smoking an electronic cigarette. I had to say to him, "Really?"
'That will be the last time I attend that show unless I get some award for... "and the award this year for the only person in England writing his own songs, oh that’s right, there’s only one nominee.'
The Oasis stars both have had a long history with the BRIT Awards over the years, full of many infamous drunken moments.
In 1996, while accepting an award for Best New Band, Liam grabbed the microphone from award presenter Micheal Hutchence, and said: 'Right, first thing first. I heard Michael was going to give me a slap. So come on...'

Before Noel savagely added: 'Has-beens shouldn't be dishing out awards to gonnabes.'
The brothers also famously mocked their Britpop rivals Blur by performing a rendition of their hit Parklife at the 1996 ceremony.
Then as the 2001 BRITs when handing an award to U2, Noel aimed a dig at band A1, saying: 'This award ceremony over the years has been accused of not having a sense of humour, but when you see A1 winning best newcomer, you know that someone's taking the p*** somewhere.'
Explaining the brothers' famous BRITs antics, Noel said on the podcast: You can't have a hangover if you're always p***ed.'
