Nearly everyone is (im)patiently waiting for the Switch 2 reveal, but in the meantime, the original Nintendo Switch just became the second-best selling game system in the US ever. Meanwhile, EA Sports College Football 25 is now the best-selling sports game in US history based on dollar sales--and it hasn't even been available for a full year.
Circana, the research group formerly known as NPD, revealed the two major milestones as part of the company's November report on the video game industry. Nintendo has now sold 46.6 million Switch systems in the US, surpassing PS2 and only sitting behind DS. As for College Football 25, it also now ranks in the top 50 best-selling games of all time in the US for dollar sales.
Overall, the total US market for video games was down 7% year over year in November, according to Circana. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 topped the game charts and sits as the No. 2 best-selling game year-to-date, behind College Football 25. The only new title to crack the top 10 list for last month was Mario & Luigi: Brothership, placing seventh.
In hardware, PS5 was the hardware leader in November for dollar sales and units sold. Interestingly, PS5 Pro was responsible for 19% of all PS5 systems sold and 28% of dollar intake for Sony. Comparatively, that's 12% lower than PS4 Pro did in November 2016 for unit sales but over 50% higher in dollar sales.
