Nintendo held one of its Nintendo Direct presentations on Thursday, focusing on games coming to the original Switch -- even though the reveal of the Switch 2 is just days away on April 2. At the end of the show, the company revealed it had a news app available for download, and on Friday, it used that app to announce the expected date of the Legend of Zelda movie.

According to a post in the Nintendo Today app, the Legend of Zelda live-action movie will be released worldwide on March 26, 2027. A short teaser with the information and some theme music from the fantasy game series playing in the background showed up on the app Friday morning. Nintendo did not provide any other details in the news post.

After the huge success of the Super Mario Bros. Movie, news of a film based on the other iconic Nintendo franchise emerged in November 2023. Series creator Shigeru Miyamoto and film producer Avi Arad will produce the film, and director Wes Ball (The Maze Runner, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) is still tied to the movie, according to Variety

Nintendo's reveal of the movie date on its new app shows the company plans to use it not only for game and console news. The Nintendo news will only get bigger next week when the company reveals its next console, the Nintendo Switch 2.

After it was first shown back in January, there are still many questions about the successor to the Switch. Gamers wonder how much it will cost, when to preorder it and what games will be available on the Switch 2.
