When Nikita Bier was hired as X’s head of product in July of 2025, he wrote on X “I’ve officially posted my way to the top.”

Now, a little over a year later, he says, “it’s time to pass the torch and demote myself to my natural state: a poster.”

The guy likes to use the X social media platform, is what I’m saying. And also, he’s leaving his current job at said platform but will “continue on as an advisor,” he wrote in his resignation post.

If you know Bier, it’s probably from his X posting habits. His overall pattern is astonishingly similar to his boss Elon Musk’s: making what I guess are supposed to be jokes, replying obsequiously to conservatives, posting about how impressed he is by other accounts’ content when it isn’t actually very impressive, delivering inscrutable and grandiose pronouncements, and just posting a lot. Before working at X, Bier was a serial entrepreneur, known for making high-concept apps that were small in scope but then went viral and got acquired by larger companies.

During his tenure at X, the app’s parent company was acquired by SpaceX, which then became a publicly traded company. Bier was also at his post during the infamous Grok child sexual abuse imagery scandal, which played out on X.

Yesterday’s SpaceX earnings disclosures revealed an $83 million decline year-over-year in X’s ad revenue.
