NBC's reboot of Night Courthas proven to be another big hit for the network, but will the legal comedy score a season 4 renewal? A continuation of the beloved sitcom that ran from 1984 until 1992, the new Night Court follows optimistic Judge Abby Stone (Melissa Rauch), the daughter of the original series' Harry Stone, as she presides over the Manhattan Criminal Court's night shift. While tackling some of the goofiest cases that the Big Apple has to offer, Abby must wrangle her cantankerous staff that includes a humorous bailiff, a high maintenance prosecutor, and a gruff defense attorney.
Though critics have largely looked down on Night Court (and the sitcom genre in general), the familiar and nostalgic series has managed to become an ongoing fixture in NBC's shifting lineup. Season 2 and 3 have begun introducing new wrinkles in the characters, and though it largely follows the classic sitcom formula of low-stake humor with very little carry over from episode to episode, Night Court has nevertheless built momentum. This bodes well for the show's future, as each successive season seems to beget another with more certainty each year. However, NBC hasn't announced season 4 of Night Court yet.

The Cast Weighs In On Season 4's Chances

With the show still in the middle of its triumphant third outing, the latest news finds the cast of Night Court expressing their hopes for season 4. Cast members Nyambi Nyambi (Wyatt), Gary Anthony Williams (Flobert), and Lacretta (Donna), each offered their thoughts on season 4 and where they hope their characters will go. While they all had high hopes that season 4 would happen, Lacretta especially hoped to see more of Donna's home life if the show was picked up for another installment.
Read their comments here:
Nyambi Nyambi: So, they haven't told us anything about what would be happening in Season 4, or a Season 4. Please, I would love a Season 4...
I know, and I'm sure there'll be with everything that we've explored this season, I know we'll get to see more exploration of Abby's love life. You'll hopefully see even my love life because you're seeing other aspects of me. Last season, you got to see some of Gurgs' love life. So, you know, it's gotta be my turn, right?
You see Dan Fielding's love life. So much so they brought on the person that you know he was having relations with, Wendie Malick. So, I mean, it's gotta be my turn. So, in season 4, I feel like you'll see some of my love life as well. That's my guess. And then, of course, more zany craziness.
Gary Anthony Williams: I'm crossing the fingers. I hear about it in my own head on the Season 4, yes, in my head, we've already been picked up, and I get to be happy every day driving to work. So that's all I've heard about a Season 4 so far. So we're all waiting on that and crossing the fingers.
What I hope to happen is I want to keep pushing that friendship with he and Dan. I would also love to meet some of Flobert's family, because he's mentioned his wife a couple of times, and they have a very tenuous relationship. I want to see the kind of woman that would put up with Flobert. I would love to see that.
Lacretta: I would love to explore [Donna's] home life. Like, what is that? We know that she has got a huge family. There are two sets of twins that we know of. Is she a twin? That would be fun.
We had the Gurgs, not Gurgs, episode last season when the Duke came to visit. Is there an actual Donna and Diana? Like, what would be her twin? What are her thoughts on having a family of her own? Those are the things that I would like to enjoy going into when we have our fourth season to see more of Gurgs' home life.
Night Court Season 4 Is Not Confirmed
NBC Hasn't Ordered More Episodes Yet

Night Court might be one of the most consistent series on network TV today, but NBC has yet to renew the show for a fourth season. This shouldn't be too surprising considering how new season 3 is, but the wait probably won't be long to learn the fate of the Melissa Rauch vehicle. The first season of the show was shaky, but the second season renewal illustrated NBC's trust in the process of establishing a successful sitcom. Their faith was rewarded when Night Court season 2 built upon season 1's success and eventually turned into season 3.
Since the show is returning somewhat late in the fall 2024 season, it will fit into a schedule which gets very thin as other fall shows go on hiatus for the holidays.
The fate of Night Court season 3 depends on how season 3 fares, though there is little reason to think it won't be bigger than its predecessors. Having found its footing in season 2, season 3 will likely be where Night Court hits its stride, making season 4 an absolute necessity. NBC is probably waiting for most of the season to air before they make their decision. Since the show is returning somewhat late in the fall 2024 season, it will fit into a schedule which gets very thin as other fall shows go on hiatus for the holidays.
Night Court season 3 premiered on November 19, 2024.
Night Court Season 4 Cast Details
Will The Honorable Judge Abby Stone Preside?
The cast of Night Court has been surprisingly inconsistent throughout its three-season run thus far, and major cast members have changed with each season. However, there are a host of characters that can be expected in season 4, regardless of what happens in the sitcom's third outing. Leading the series as star and executive producer, The Big Bang Theory's Melissa Rauch is all but guaranteed to return as Judge Abby Stone. Likewise, original series star John Larroquette will be back as ornery "ladies man" Dan Fielding, who has switched from prosecution to defense in the rebooted series.
Night Court has lost yet another main cast member ahead of season 3, repeating a common trend from the original series that premiered 40 years ago.
Taking an elevated role in season 3, it's assumed that Wendie Malick's Julianne Walters will be back in the courtroom in season 4, though it remains to be seen how the new prosecutor will exact her revenge on Dan. Court Clerk Wyatt Shaw (Nyambi Nyambi) will be back as well, trying his best to keep the Judge on track, while lovable bailiff Donna "Gurgs" Gurganous will be played by Lacretta. There are also a host of original Night Court characters who could return as well, but it's impossible to guess who that would be at this juncture.
The cast of Night Court season 4 will likely include:
Actor
Night Court Role
Melissa Rauch
Judge Abby Stone
John Larroquette
Dan Fielding
Wendie Malick
Julianne Walters
Nyambi Nyambi
Wyatt Shaw
Lacretta
Donna "Gurgs" Gurganous

Keeping the traditional sitcom formula alive, Night Courtseason 4's plot is difficult to predict because it likely won't have a very strong storyline at all. Relying instead on weekly episodic stories, it's impossible to guess what will happen in the fourth season's individual episodes. While the ending of season 3 will probably throw an interesting wrinkle into the mix, there's very little that connects the show from episode to episode. As such, the only thing that viewers should expect is the unexpected, as Judge Stone and company deal with whatever silly shenanigans wind up in her courtroom.
