Nicole Kidman has been slammed for her striking new photoshoot for Vogue Australia, with critics accusing the superstar of using AI to turn back the clock.

In one look, the 59-year-old showcased her incredible abs in a Chanel bikini paired with low-slung denim jeans by the same fashion house, a statement gold necklace and tousled wet hair.

A second look saw the film star looking like a skater chick in a Chanel beanie hat and matching monochromatic strapless dress as she gazed into the camera.

But while the actress's youthful appearance and fashion-forward styling made for some stunning images, some social media users were less than impressed, questioning whether the photographs had been digitally altered.

'AI data centres working overtime on this retouching,' one person remarked.

'Oh, the filtering on those shots,' another agreed, while a third wrote: 'I like Nicole, but these photos are so obviously photoshopped it's ridiculous.'

Others were similarly sceptical about the images, with one commenter asking: 'Photoshop or AI? You choose...'

'Who needs a facelift or Photoshop when generative AI can just create an image out of nowhere,' another added.

One critic went so far as to suggest the images were misleading, arguing that digitally altered photographs should carry a warning.

'Every digitally altered picture should have a warning in print at the base of said picture,' they wrote.

Another suggested people should compare the editorial with photographs of Nicole elsewhere to see the difference, writing that she looked closer to her actual age in an image on Wikipedia.

'Go to Wikipedia and look up her name there and you see her picture from last year and she looks her age. This one she looks about 35,' they claimed.

'Bet she looks nothing like this on her passport or licence. Thanks AI for distorting the truth.'

However, it was not just the apparent retouching that attracted criticism, with some taking aim at the actress's youthful styling.

'Body is great but the outfits they chose for her are more for a teenager,' one person wrote.

'Why? These Hollywood ladies feel the need to act like they are in their 20s,' another complained.

Others were more blunt in their assessment, with one writing: 'You are not young anymore, give it up.'

'She really needs to grow up', another commenter added.

Despite the backlash, Nicole received plenty of online praise for her Vogue shoot.

'Looking absolutely fabulous!', one user exclaimed, as another added: '59! She looks incredible!'

'Eat your heart out Keith and Tom,' a third user wrote, referring to Nicole's exes, Keith Urban and Tom Cruise.

'Always thought she was gorgeous. Here, your honour, is the evidence,' another fan enthused.
