Spider-Man has had a plethora of phenomenal RPGs and video game adaptations over the years, to the point that fans are frankly spoiled for choice. Playing as the web-slinging and swinging hero is a lot of fun, no matter the format or medium, and that is unlikely to change any time soon.
Fortunately, for those who feel a tad starved for new Spider-Man gaming content, there's a brand-new RPG scheduled to release in September 2026, just a few months after the release of the highly-anticipated Spider-Man: Brand-New Day film. It serves as the perfect opportunity to once again step into the webbed red boots of the titular character and swing across New York. At the very least, it'll be a fun distraction before Marvel's Wolverine releases.
Shortly after the release of the upcoming Marvel Secret Wars RPG, Spider-Man is getting his very own Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game expansion. For those not in the know, Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game is a TTRPG that sees players embody their favorite heroes while setting off on globe-trotting adventures against some of the franchise's most nefarious villains. It's a great table-top RPG that perfectly adapts not just each individual hero, but also the unique nature of comic books in general and their often colorful plotlines.
Much like the incredible X-Men RPG expansion before it, the Spider-Man – Midtown Mayhem book adds a new adventure featuring Spider-Man and the Hulk attempting to stop a gang war between Tombstone and the Hand from getting out of hand (pun intended.) This 64-page book gives players all the stats, character details, and story beats players need to run their own version of this epic new quest, one that will be perfect for those wanting a little more after seeing the aforementioned Hulk and Spider-Man-led Brand-New Day film.
To play this Spider-Man-themed expansion, prospective players will need to first purchase the Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game core rulebook, or find a guide and PDFs online, as it contains information not included in the expansion.
The book also comes with a brand-new comic book prologue penned by Cody Ziglar, the award-winning writer behind the recent Spider-Punk comics and the relaunch of Miles Morales: Spider-Man. While certainly shorter than some of the other expansions for Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game, the Spider-Man – Midtown Mayhem book only costs $14.99, making it a fairly cheap and accessible way into playing as these beloved characters.
Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game may not be as exciting to some as a full-blown Marvel's Spider-Man 3 reveal, or even a brand-new video game RPG. However, it is a truly great TTRPG that absolutely understands what makes the comic books and their characters shine. For those who love Marvel Comics, and indeed those who are after a Spider-Man RPG, the Midtown Mayhem expansion for Marvel Multiverse RPG may just be the perfect choice.
